Lesson 3 & 4

Lesson 3 & 4

The next parts are lot less philosophical! You could spread it over two or more days if you wish.

When I was growing up, I used to love getting home from school, eating beans on toast for dinner and watching Robot Wars.  It has been back on TV in recent years and so some of you may already be familiar with it.

Today, I would like you to find out a bit about some of the robots that have been on the show.  What is your favourite House Robot? Why?  There are some clips below of some of the most impressive 'knock-outs' too.  As you look at some of the different robots, think carefully about how they have been designed.  Why have they used that shape?  What are their strengths and weaknesses?  Which is your favourite?

Once you have viewed some clips, seen some photos and read some information about some of the different competitors and House Robots you are ready for the next part.

Once you have viewed some clips, seen some photos and read some information about some of the different competitors and House Robots you are ready for the next part.

I would like you to;

DESIGN YOUR OWN ROBOT TO ENTER ROBOT WARS!

Now obviously, I am not expecting you to make a real, fully-functioning robot of destruction.  But draw your design, label its important parts and perhaps write a short description.  You will have noticed that the robots on the TV show have impressive names - what will you call your robot?

You could go even further if you want to and build a model of it, perhaps using Lego or junk modelling.  I would love to see your photos and drawings, so please email them in!
