Hello Year 2

Today we are going to add two 2-digit numbers. Remember that you can draw pictures of tens and ones to help you with this work. Some of you will be able to do these addition problems mentally ( in your head without writing anything down) and some of you will need to draw pictures or even get some counters/straw/sticks etc.

There are quite a few questions to do during the video lesson, so if you don't want to do the whole worksheet, that is fine.

It will be a good idea to watch Maths 4 Kids (link below). It is really good at explaining exchanging the ten.

__Note for parents:__ I have attached a photo at the bottom of this page to show how we draw tens and ones to solve addition calculations when we are in school. I hope it helps you and your child. There is also a link to a Classroom Secrets lesson which teaches this lesson very well.

We have learnt how to add two 2 digit numbers in school but most children will not have had much practise writing down column method addition problems in their books so they will need help setting their work out correctly with the tens underneath the tens and the ones underneath the ones with only one number in each square. This can be challenging for some, so you might want to write the questions out for them.

Thank you.
