Hello Year 2
Ready to move on to subtraction? Today we are going to subtract two 2-digit numbers. Remember that you can draw pictures of tens and ones to help you with this work. It will also be a good idea to watch Maths 4 Kids (link below).
There are quite a few questions to do during the video lesson, so if you don't want to do the whole worksheet, that is fine.
Note for parents:
If your child found the addition work yesterday really tricky, it would be better to repeat the lesson and watch the Maths 4 Kids clips again before moving on to today's lesson. You could do this subtraction lesson another time.
Most of the children in Year 2 will not have had very much experience of subtraction with exchanging a ten ( borrowing a ten). We were just getting to it when school closed, so this might be challenging for them. I have attached a photo at the end of this page to show you how your child might draw the tens and ones to support their work. Good luck!
I have attached a maths worksheet with no exchange (no borrowing from the tens). If your child is struggling, please do this worksheet before attempting the Whiterose worksheet.
Please also remember that most children will not have had much practise writing down the formal column method subtraction problems in their books, so they will need help setting their work out correctly with the tens underneath the tens and the ones underneath the ones with only one number in each square. This can be challenging for some, so you might want to write the questions out for them or just do them practically with counters or drawings Thank you.
