Mrs Loxton's and Mrs R-P's group

Welcome to your Wednesday phonics session.  We'll start by playing 'quickwrite' so you'll need your literacy book or a white board or chalk board if you have one. Use the cards below to help you;

Use the cards to help you find and write all the graphemes that make a long a sound (you should be able to find 3)

Next write down all the graphemes that make a long i sound, you should be able to find 3 above and don't forget that i on it's own can also make long i sound.

Now write all the graphemes that make a long o sound as in g-oa-t, there are 3 to find and remember we have also just learnt that o on it's own can make a long o sound in words like cold.

Today we are going to learn about the alternative pronunciations of u.  It's a tricky one today as u can make three different sounds.  Short u in sun, oo in pudding and 'you' in unicorn, music and tuba.

Have a go at reading the words below.

plug  hump  gust  but   under

unit   music   tuba  stupid

unicorn  pudding  full awful

Now finish the session by playing Sneaky Squirrels.
