News from the week 7th April 2025

Wow! What a wonderfully busy week to finish off the Spring term! We have all enjoyed the most amazing opportunities to explore different activities, experiences and to feel a true part of our lovely Kington community.

Our whole school value for April is 'Respect' and this has been tangible this week through different moments and experiences explored by some of our classes. On Monday,  a small number of  the 'Kington Trefoil' organisation met with a group of our Year 5 children, Mrs. Wood and Mrs. Welson to relay their memories of VE Day, which of course is now 8o years ago. The children had worked with Mrs. Welson to create questions to ask the veterans and consider areas that they wanted to learn more about. Throughout the afternoon, the Year 5 children were respectful and polite and listened so carefully to their memories. We were all amazed to see artefacts from the day and from the war and to hear about how vividly the ladies remembered specific details and moments. To show our appreciation we presented each of them with a 'Gold' House-point badge to add to their trefoil collection, they were all thrilled and immediately pinned their badges on!

On Tuesday, in all classes from Year 1 through to Year 6 there was the buzz of extra excitement during our 'Enrichment Morning'. All of our groups were so interested to explore different activities linked to one of our 'Harmony' values and were proud of their finished noodle dish, compass art, community work through litter picking, their computer work, their performance practice ready for later in the week or their mindfulness work including yoga.

On Tuesday afternoon, Year 4, enjoyed sharing their ukulele and singing skills with their families and were so pleased to see the enjoyment that their songs and tunes brought other people. We also said a huge 'Thank you' to Mrs. Walker who has worked so hard with us to help us to be confident enough to share with an audience.

Apple Group spent time celebrating Easter with the residents of Kington Court and Marwick Close. At Kington Court, we even took part in an Easter egg hunt with some of the residents and enjoyed finding the colourful eggs! This is always such an important enrichment activity and our children really value the opportunity to entertain and meet with some of the older members of our community.

Our year 5 class had an amazing time performing at 'The Courtyard', their dance reflected the commitment, enthusiasm and passion which they each individually showed throughout the project. Special thanks go to the Year 5 team who have supported our wonderful children to achieve such a brilliant and thoughtful performance.

On Wednesday, we focused on attendance in our assembly and were able to say a huge 'Congratulations' to Year 4 who won this half term's highest class attendance award, they are looking forward to their class treat which they are busy planning for next half term. We were also able to award our values prize for this half term and our lovely prize was really well received.

Our assembly today has been a fantastic celebration of progress and achievement across this half term. We heard about superb efforts with a whole range of learning and activities including phonics, progress in maths, extra focus on their reading both in school and at home, for having such a positive attitude towards all of their learning and for showing all of our important school values in whatever we do. Quite rightly each of our certificate winners was clearly proud of their own achievements. Congratulations to you all.

Everyone at Kington Primary would like to wish all of our families and community a fantastic couple of weeks and a 'Happy Easter'. We hope for sunshine but whatever the weather enjoy your holiday.

We look forward to welcoming you all back on Tuesday 29th April.
