Welcome everyone, to our weekly catch-up. We would like to share with you news from last week in our fantastic school.
Our week began with Mrs Welson leading our assembly where we heard about the story ‘Lost and Found’ by Oliver Jeffers. This well-known story highlighted for us the importance of friendship, welcoming new people and how common interests can be a positive start to new friendships.
We also practised our whole school song ‘Together’ ready for our Harvest assembly tomorrow. (Please see the message which has been sent home today relating to Food Bank donations). It was also lovely to be able to present our House Captains with their badges and congratulate them again on their new responsibilities. They were very proud to wear their new badges.
During the week we took collection of our latest fiction books from Herefordshire school libraries, who we work closely with, and we have been so pleased to share new stories with classes who have added the books to their classroom libraries.
On Wednesday, Mr Sell led our assembly where he talked about friendship and how important it is to have ‘healthy’ friendships. He explained how, as a Christian, he also identifies God and Jesus as his friends. Everyone listened respectfully to Mr Sell and impressed him with how well we focused during the assembly.
Throughout the week, our exciting learning opportunities, including swimming for Years 5 and 6 and Forest School for Year 4, have continued with the children being very excited and enthusiastic about these activities!
Year 6 had a very different morning on Thursday with those children who are planning on going to Lady Hawkins next September having their ‘taster morning’. This was a really positive session, and it was lovely for our Year 6s to meet Year 6s from other local schools and get to know each other. Many of the children then returned to Lady Hawkins in the evening with their families to explore the official ‘Open Evening’.
On Friday, Years 5 and 6 enjoyed a fantastic and impressive local walk led by our Governor, Tony Collier. The children and staff had a wonderful day, although there were some very tired legs to go with the big smiles when they returned to school.
Whilst Years 5 and 6 were out walking, the rest of the school gathered for our weekly Headteacher stickers. This week we heard fabulous reasons for nominations, including children who have been making positive choices and asking adults for help with their learning if they feel they need it and children who have been wonderful at supporting other children. We also heard about children who have been showing the most super respect to others and for being kind to others. Other children were spotted for doing their best and for working on some fantastic maths. Wow, we were all so impressed by the reasons explained by the class teachers and congratulated everyone on their achievements.
We would like to wish everyone a brilliant week, and we look forward to sharing with you next Monday all of the amazing things we have been doing.

Don’t forget our lovely free toddler group based in our Nursery on a Monday afternoon.
We would also like to share the date of our own ‘Open Evening’ for prospective parents of children who would like to join our super school. This is for parents of children of any age who are interested in becoming part of our school. Keep an eye out for posters around Kington!
