Welcome everyone, to our weekly catch-up of news from across our wonderful school.

You will hopefully have noticed our new feature on the school website, which is our video sharing our values and ethos as a school but also showing our fantastic learning environments from our beautiful Nursery right through to our exciting KS2 classrooms and outside areas. We hope that you find it a positive and informative new resource.

This week in school we have again been so impressed with how our amazing children and staff have coped in the challenging heat. We have managed to have as 'normal' a week as we can, and we thank the whole Kington Primary team for helping to make this possible.

This week we have not necessarily had assemblies on the 'normal' days or in the 'normal' places!  One of our assemblies was on Thursday when Reception and Key Stage 1 joined all of Key Stage 2 up at LHS. Key Stage 2 have their show today (2.25pm and 6pm) and yesterday our younger children were a wonderful first audience for us to perform for. Our audience thought that the play was 'funny, amazing and brilliant'. We were even told that they had 'loved it!' We are all so proud of everyone in Key Stage 2 who have helped to produce such a fantastic show with the most impressive acting and singing. We must thank Year 6 in particular, who have been dedicated to learning their lines to help put on a great show, and we hope that many of you can join us at one of our two performances. A huge 'Thank you' to our brilliant Key Stage 2 team who have worked with commitment and passion to help our children to shine through this performance as the stars which we know they all are.

We have all been very excited this week to welcome back Mr Haines, who was a very important PE teacher for our children who relocated two years ago to the USA. He is back in Herefordshire for a short while and has wanted to spend some time back with us, and we have been really happy to see him. Mr Haines shared some exciting news on Tuesday in our assembly when he told us about a football camp which he is running on every Wednesday in August at our school alongside coaches from Cheltenham Town football club for children from 7 to 11 years old. Details of this exciting opportunity have been sent home, sharing the QR code that you need to access to find out more. 

On Monday, our Year 5 girls attended the last 'Here Girls Can' session at LHS which has been organised by Stride and funded by Children in Need. This time, our girls really enjoyed the silent disco and yoga activities which were available and all felt that the sessions had been really supportive and positive for them.

In Tuesday's assembly we also heard from Mrs Bretherton about the importance of being safe in water, particularly thinking about rivers, lakes and the sea. We heard about why it is so important to only access these sources of water with an adult's knowledge and techniques for entering the water safely to avoid cold water shock. Everyone listened carefully to this important shared information.

On Wednesday, we held a tea party to say 'Thank you' and 'Happy Retirement' for Ms Deans, Mrs Hedley and Mrs Bachmann, and it was lovely for our parents who attended, to spend time with our three very special adults who have each contributed so much to our school and who will all miss.

We also welcomed Mr Sell on Wednesday as he led an assembly just for our youngest children which reminded them of all of the values which we have thought about this school year. Our Key Stage 1 and Reception children were very impressed with just how many there are!

Today, as we look ahead to the show this afternoon and tonight, we were able to award stickers for a wide variety of super reasons, including impressively quick changing of costumes in the play for someone who is playing two characters, and they are really rising to the challenge, and others for being a calm, focused and positive member of their class and for making a really impressive Viking longship model which floated for a very long time! We also heard about children who have worked so hard on their reading at home and in school, which has resulted in them being able to read and write with tricky words and vocabulary which would not always be used by some of our youngest children, and for being a wonderful role model for others, and we also said a fond 'goodbye and good luck' to a family who are starting at a new school next term. 

Today, we also heard about some amazing fundraising that one of our Year 3s has achieved during the month of June. He has raised a wonderful amount for an important charity and the whole school were very proud to hear of his efforts.

We also congratulated our first 'going green' certificates for children who will be going into Year 4 in the new term. This really impressed everyone. 

We find it hard to believe that next week is our last couple of days together for this school year! We have a busy three days ahead and look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday as we start to celebrate all that we have achieved together this school year.
