Welcome everyone to our weekly catch-up of news from our fantastic school.

This week has been another lovely week and despite the changeable weather, we have all enjoyed exciting learning opportunities and happy times with our friends.

For the last two weeks, children right across school have been working hard on their summer term assessments, which have been happening in every year group from Y1. We have all been so impressed with the effort and focus which has been shown by all of our children. Years 1, 2 and 4 have done particularly well this week with their formal assessments, and they have been ever so mature and positive about completing these. 'Well done' to you all.

On Monday, with Mrs Bretherton, we thought further about the value of ‘responsibility’ and what it means to be responsible for others but also ourselves. This was an idea which we chatted about with the people around us in assembly, and we had some great shared suggestions for how to do this. We also congratulated a group of Y3 children who had all reached the milestone of their next house-point badge. 

On Tuesday, Year 4 were so excited to share their fabulous ukulele and singing with their families. Everyone in the audience were so impressed with how well Year 4 did and everyone said a huge ‘Thank you’ to Mrs Walker for all of her hard work this year helping Year 4 and Mrs Welson to prepare for such a super concert.

Key Stage 2 are continuing to work hard on their songs and the school is now regularly filled with their enthusiastic singing as they practice ready for the July 10^th performance. Year 6 are doing so well with their acting and the Year 3 rats and Year 4 monkeys have been very excited to have a first go at their moments in the play this week!

Across school, we are all busy preparing for our sports day morning (Thursday, June 25^th at LHS) with our children being excited to work as part of their ‘house’ and to enjoy the different sporting activities. It has been lovely to see the variety of sporting races and challenges that our children, from our youngest to our oldest, are practising and working on.

We have been excited this week to set up our new homes for hedgehogs in our lovely new outdoor learning space, and we are hoping that visiting hedgehogs find them happy, quiet and safe spaces to rest in.

We have been pleased to be able to congratulate children who attend our after-school arts and craft club who have successfully had pieces of artwork chosen to be published in an art collection book. We will all be excited to see their beautiful artwork presented in this special way.

Today in assembly we have celebrated this week’s headteacher stickers, and it has been impressive to hear about our younger children, who this week have been spotted making huge progress with their early reading skills such as decoding and blending, working so hard in their Year 1 phonics assessment and having a positive attitude and showing perseverance in their Year 2 assessments. We also heard about Key Stage 2 children who had been making excellent choices with friendship, given all that they can to their latest writing, shown fantastic focus in all lessons, really focused on their presentation, which is now so neat and something to be proud of, and for having a great focus and attitude towards the summer show practices and their own learning. Wow! 'Congratulations' to you all, we are very proud of each and every one of you.

We were also pleased to be able to congratulate our winning artists from our recent 'design the achievement certificates' competitions. Everyone agreed that our winning design, which you can see above, is a really happy, positive way of celebrating special achievements, and we can't wait to see them on the new certificates next school year.

We know that this week has been a little more challenging with the weather, and we hope that this weekend’s promised brighter weather arrives! Have a super weekend everyone, and we look forward to seeing you all on Monday ready for another fantastic, busy week together.

*Reminder that next Friday (19^th June) is our first ‘wear what you like’ day to support the summer fayre by bringing in chocolate ready for the stalls.

*Pet portrait competition for the St. Mary's fête closing date is Friday 19th June at 10am. Entries can be delivered to the school office.

*Whole school writing competition until the 3rd July. Any style of writing on the theme of pirates! Entries can be given to class teachers or to Mrs Welson.
