Weekly News 6th February 2026

Welcome everyone to our weekly catch up of news from across our brilliant school.

This week has been such a wet and grey one, but we have continued to be as cheerful and positive as we always are here at Kington Primary!

Despite the rain, there has been so much exciting learning happening and a lot of discussion about our February value of 'trust'. On Monday, we thought with Mrs Bretherton during her whole school assembly about what we understand 'trust' to mean and how we can all try our best to be trustworthy people. Children from all classes shared some fantastic ideas about what being trustworthy would look like and how it feels to know that they were trusted by people in school and at home.

In our Wednesday assembly, Hannah from 'Checkpoint' shared a really upbeat and fast-paced song with us and also shared a quiz with us all about opposite words, which was great fun. The idea of opposites linked to the theme of Hannah's assembly, which was to always do our best to be kind to others, including when situations are difficult or frustrating.

In our assembly today, we heard about our first Year 4 to 'go green' with their times-tables. This certificate and special pencil mean that children are demonstrating fluency, speed and accuracy with their times-tables. We also heard about the superb role models that we have in our school who have been chosen this week for the Headteacher's stickers. We were all impressed to hear about children who are always working their hardest in all of their learning, someone who has worked hard to develop the detail and vocabulary that they use when explaining their ideas and answers and another person who is always ready to show their best in every lesson. In addition, we also heard about children who are working hard to make the right choices for themselves and their friends, who are demonstrating amazing French and German skills, who are helpful and respectful to everyone that they work with, and more than one person who is showing better understanding in recent assessments and showing 100% effort! There was also a sticker winner who their class teacher predicted would grow up to be an artist as their work is just so amazing and inspiring! A massive 'congratulations' and 'well done' to you all.

In our assembly today we also heard about an exciting event which will be happening underneath the new decking in our transformed back garden area. We are going to be burying a time capsule to be opened in decades to come which will be filled with drawn pictures of everyone who is part of our school in February 2026 and a copy of this blog so that people in the future can appreciate what school was like today. This will be our second time capsule at our school as we also have one linked to the building of our beautiful Nursery building.

News from around and across school includes Years 2 and 4 having another wonderful art session with our friends from 'Meadow Arts', Suzy and Sarah. This week, the children were inspired by snowdrops to create the most beautiful printed images and copper wire shapes. They all really enjoyed the chance to explore different media and materials.

Our building project continues to move towards the end stage. This week the building is really starting to come together, and the rooms are looking brilliant. We thank our fantastic build team again for all of their hard work and positive energy around our school.

We wish you all a lovely weekend and some blue sky (fingers crossed) and look forward to seeing you on Monday for the last week before the half-term break.
