Weekly News 27th March

Welcome everyone to our weekly round up of news from our lovely school.

This week has been an especially busy and productive one, and we would love to share some of these magical moments with you.

We started off our last week of the term together by celebrating in assembly the latest house-point badges which had been awarded. Our house captains did a great job of presenting these hard-worked-for awards. We also heard from our Year 5 'Wellbeing warriors', who shared information about the important support which they can offer other children during playtimes, which was really interesting to hear about. Mrs Roberts-Powell shared one of her favourite childhood poems with the school, which was called 'When I was six' and we all agreed that this was a perfect poem for a Year 1 teacher!

Outside on Monday, Year 5 made a start towards their bike-ability experience, working alongside Paul and Pete. The children have been very focused and respectful as they have been taught how to safely move around the local area on their bikes. They were very proud to receive their certificates and badges in today's assembly.

As promised in last week's blog, you can see pictures of the Year 5 and 6 trip to St Fagans which was enjoyed by them all. They were really interested in the Victorian schoolroom experience and were fascinated by the different buildings which they saw there. Thank you to the Year 5 and 6 team who had planned and organised this wonderful learning experience.

Years 3 and 4 had an exciting opportunity on Tuesday of going up to LHS to work with some of their Y11 PE students. The students had planned group activities for our children to try out based on balance, co-ordination and team work. The children had a wonderful time and thoroughly enjoyed their multi-skills session.

On Wednesday, Phillipa from St. Mary's led our assembly where she asked us to think more about the Easter story and to think about how other religions also have important festivals at this time of year. We also heard how Year 1 had won this half-term's attendance prize. Congratulations to them and we look forward to hearing about your 'treat' after the holidays.

We all had a fantastic day on Thursday during our STEM day, which had been organised by Mrs Hedley. Across school, the children had some amazing scientific experiences and took part in a wide variety of activities, including a wonderful robotics workshop with Jess. Key Stage 2 had a fantastic time making Ferris wheels and Key Stage 1 were amazed with their carousels. Thank you to everyone involved for making this such a wonderful day, but especially Mrs Hedley for all of her hard work.

Today, we have been proud to award our achievement certificates to children right across school. We have heard about children who have made fantastic progress in all subject areas, who have been positive and supportive to others, who are really kind friends and those who have worked hard on their own behaviour choices. We also heard about children who have an excellent work ethic, those who are positive role models and for joining in with more learning activities with independence. Everyone was so impressed to hear about these wonderful reasons and were proud to congratulate those who had been chosen for their certificate. We also congratulated one of our children who had won the poetry competition at last weekend's Kington pop-up Poetry Festival and heard about the latest Year 4 to achieve their times tables 'gone green' certificate.

We would like to wish everyone a very 'Happy Easter' and we hope that everyone has a wonderful time, and we keep our fingers crossed for some sunny Easter weather. We will be pleased to welcome you all back on Monday 13th April and look forward to hearing all about your holiday.
