Weekly News 24th April

Welcome everyone to our weekly news update from life here at Kington Primary.

We have all been enjoying the beautiful spring weather this week and have been particularly inspired by the amazing butterfly arch display and wildlife roleplay set which we have hosted this week in school. All classes have enjoyed looking at the wonderful models of butterflies and other insects, learning about the importance of these living creatures to our ecosystem and thinking about ways in which we can protect them.

We started our week together in assembly, learning more about how important blossoming plants are for bees, with Mrs Bretherton being a bee searching for pollen and Mrs Sargent taking on the role of apple blossom! The fantastic large scale models really helped us all to understand more about this important process.

On Monday, we also said 'congratulations' to a lovely big group of our children who had been awarded enough house-points for their next badge. Well done to you all.

On Wednesday we welcomed Hannah from 'Checkpoint' who shared with us the theme of superheroes. We shared pictures and thought about the abilities which different superheroes have. Hannah explained to us how for Christians there are also superheroes in the bible: Joshua and Noah and the disciples and others who are an inspiration to Hannah as a Christian.

Key Stage 2 have enjoyed starting the inter-house football competition and there have been some very close matches! Thank you to our house captains who are doing a great job motivating our players, organising the matches and refereeing very fairly as the matches are played. We look forward to carrying this competition on next week and hearing who the overall champions will be.

Our Year 2 class continue to enjoy their forest school sessions with Vik and have a great time this week matching colour chips to natural colours within the environment, painting on rocks, skimming pebbles and toasting marshmallows. Year 2 are doing a champion job of representing our school so brilliantly in our local community as all of our classes do. Well done to you all.

Today Years 3 and 4 are in Swansea exploring museums and centres linked to their Egyptian topic. The children were so excited as they got on the bus this morning and were looking forward to learning even more about life in this ancient civilisation. They are having a brilliant day so far, and we look forward to welcoming them back later on and hearing how they have got on. We will share photos of these experiences next week.

The rest of the school came together this morning to hear about the super reasons for this week's headteacher stickers. We were all so impressed to hear about the kind friendship, respect towards others, effort in reading and writing and coping with challenges well seen across school this week. 'Congratulations' to you all.

We hope that the sunshine and brighter days continue for us all over the weekend. We will be pleased to see you all on Monday and look forward to another busy and productive week next week.
