Weekly News 1st May

A warm welcome to you all. Here is our weekly catch-up of news from across our school.

We cannot believe that it is already May! We hope that everyone has had a great week and had the chance to enjoy some of the beautiful spring sunshine which we have been having.

In school, we have had a great week, which has been full of exciting learning and fantastic playtimes with our friends. We started the week with an assembly led by Mrs. Bretherton, and we heard a lovely acrostic poem based on our value 'respect' which some Year 3s had written which reminded us all of the key ideas for how to show this value. We also said 'well done' to our big group of badge winners. We were thrilled to hear about the different badges which were awarded.

On Wednesday, Mrs Welson led a singing assembly where she also shared a 'pupdate' about our 2 sponsored guide dogs, Jack and Custard. Unfortunately, we heard that Jack has not been able to graduate puppy school and instead is waiting for a final placement with his forever family. We were all sad to hear that Jack had not been able to progress and that he had found the training requirements challenging, but were interested to hear that we have been asked if we would like to now follow another pup called Henry. Mrs. Welson shared photos and a video of Henry, who looks like another lovely dog to hear about. Everyone will miss Jack, but we will still hear about him, and we do look forward to getting to know Henry.

We have heard more about the trip to Swansea which Years 3 and 4 went on last Friday. They had a brilliant time and enjoyed exploring the real Egyptian artefacts and seeing the real Egyptian mummy. The adults were so proud of Years 3 and 4 because every adult who interacted with them on the trip commented on how polite and engaged the children were, and they were so impressed with how much they knew about the Ancient Egyptians! Thank you to all of the adults from the Years 3 and 4 teams and Mr Dinsdale from LHS who accompanied the children.

Today, we had our weekly headteacher stickers assembly and were pleased to be able to congratulate children from our different year groups who had been spotted showing fantastic learning and behaviour choices. We have heard that children have been working hard on their daily reading, using great vocabulary in maths, making amazing progress in drawing and writing and for showing respect to everyone in their class and around school. We also heard about children who have been impressing others with their decimal point work, been showing our 3 school rules at all times, have shown improved focus and attitude and have impressed with how hard they are working. We also gave an additional sticker to someone who has shown the most amazing bravery following an injury.

In our Friday assembly we also heard about the inter house running competition which takes place through our weekly KS2 running club. There have been the most amazing number of laps run this month, but with 50 laps, England have won the cup for April! Congratulations to all of the runners.

We also had an update on how our values beads competition is going, with the number of beads awarded impressing everyone. For April, the winners were Wales although the numbers of beads being earned has been ever so close, and it continues to be a fascinating competition.

In community news, you might have seen the signs around Kington advertising the Marches Makers group who are sharing examples of different artworks and holding different events and activities over the bank holiday weekend, and we are proud to be part of this. Examples of fantastic artwork from every year group are going to be on display in Border Bean as part of this weekend, and we know that everyone who sees our display will be impressed.

We hope that you all have a lovely bank holiday weekend and that the weather is kind to us. We look forward to seeing you on Tuesday and hearing what you have enjoyed doing with your family over this long weekend.
