School News 23rd May 2025

Welcome to our weekly news update. We have had an incredibly busy and exciting last week for this half-term and have examples of the fantastic opportunities which our super children have enjoyed to share with you.

We started the week with our well-trained Year 4 Roman soldiers who loved sharing their shields with their friends in Year 3.  They have worked so hard to design, construct and evaluate their shields and were, quite rightly, proud to share them.

On Tuesday, it was our half-termly enrichment morning, which was such an amazing opportunity for children from Year 1 to Year 6 to work together exploring one of our 'Harmony' principles. Across school there was such a calm, purposeful and caring atmosphere as the children worked on art activities, helped our community by doing a 'litter pick', entertained another group with their poem and songs focusing on our school values, explored different foods and learn how to prepare a noodle dish, thought about how yoga can be part of mental health and how important diversity is and thought about how our school website could be developed.

This week, Key Stage 2 had the amazing opportunity to go to the 'Hay Festival' and we had a wonderful day listening to 3 inspiring authors/poets, visiting the bookshop (where we spotted some well-known authors including Katherine Rundell and MC Grammar) and some people even had an ice-cream! We are so lucky to have such a world-renowned event happening so close to us, and we thank the 'Friends' group for supporting this trip with a financial contribution.

Our Thursday 'Bowls club' were so pleased this week, to be able to visit the Kington Bowling Club for their session. Thank you to this Kington community club for welcoming us so warmly.

Today, our Reception class are visiting Hergest Croft Gardens and have headed off very excited with their picnics and are ready to explore this amazing setting.

In our assemblies this week, we have celebrated attendance improvements and those who have achieved 98, 99 and 100% attendance this half-term. Year 4 have enjoyed their 'attendance treat' day on Friday and were excited to wear non-uniform and bring a teddy to school. Year 3 are now busy planning their reward for this half term which they will have at some point after the holiday.

In our achievement assembly, we have congratulated children across school who have stood out this half-term for a variety of wonderful reasons. The reasons shared included making great progress in their learning, being an amazing role model, having an excellent attitude to learning, for showing fantastic perseverance, for using a brilliant range of vocabulary, for making positive choices and showing super attitude along with being a kind and helpful friend.

In this assembly we also shared our new school website, which is going live a week today. We are excited to share this with everyone and hope that you all find it a useful source of information, updates and resources to support you at home.

We have also welcomed an OFSTED inspection team to our wonderful school this week, and we will share with you their feedback once we have the published report, which should be within a month. We would like to thank the whole of our school community for your support during this week and throughout the school year and to our brilliant children and staff who all totally deserve to have an amazing half-term.

We wish everyone a great half-term and look forward to welcoming you back to school on Monday 2nd June. Have a fantastic week, whatever you are planning.
