Weekly Update 11th July

We seem to start each blog at the moment with comments about a really busy and positive week and this week is no different! Please read our news and hear what fantastic opportunities we have enjoyed this week across our school.

This week has been such a warm one and we think that our wonderful children have done a great job of coping in the heat. We started this week with an extremely special visitor. We were all very excited to have the chance to meet one of the Guide Dog puppies in training who came to talk to us all in special assemblies. We learnt all about the special activities which these puppies have to be trained in and the different settings that they need to experience and cope with. The puppy trainer was very impressed with the quality of questions which we asked her and we were equally as impressed with the skills of the puppy in training, especially being able to find an empty seat on public transport and accompany his trainer calmly. This was a fantastic way to start our week.

Year 6 have also had visits from staff and students from LHS to support their transition in September and this was a really useful and interesting opportunity.

On Tuesday, we had an enrichment morning across school from Y1 to Y6. We had such an enjoyable morning working in our groups and exploring the harmony principles through different activities, which included supporting our community through litter-picking, focusing on our school website so that different improvements can be considered, thinking about our own well-being and  how different strategies can support us, creating really delicious noodles as an example of a healthy meal, experiencing how different art techniques can achieve different effects and working together to entertain the residents at Kington Court with singing and poetry performances.

On Wednesday, we welcomed Reverend Sally for an assembly where she shared with us the story of Samuel and King David. The story made all of us consider the importance of valuing the type of people that we are rather than external appearances and the importance of kindness to others.

On Thursday, Willow group visited Marwick Close and entertained the residents with their songs and poems and the audience loved it as much as the residents of Kington Court did. This is such a lovely community activity which we are honoured to be able to do.

Today, we have thought about all of the different things which have been achieved this week by people throughout school and celebrated individual achievements. Our well-deserved stickers this week were awarded for brilliant reasons, including fantastic manners, wonderful work on Brazil, engaging in lessons really positively, being a thoughtful friend and for impressing when learning about life-saving skills in an emergency.

We know that the weather this weekend is supposed to be even hotter! We hope that everyone has a wonderful weekend and enjoys the sunshine safely. Remember to slip, slop. slap with your sun protection.

We have sent out a message today about all wearing PE kits to school next week which we hope will help with the weather conditions.

We look forward to seeing you all on Monday, ready for our last week of term before the summer holidays.
