Welcome to our weekly update of life here at Kington Primary, and what a wonderful week it has been!

We have been so pleased today to hold our annual sports day up at LHS for our children from Reception through to Year 6. The weather was kind to us, and we were able to celebrate a fantastic morning of sport. Everyone was so impressed by the positive nature of everyone competing, the enormous effort that each and every competitor put into all of the events and the support which was shown to each other. There will be photographs of sports day available via class pages over the next couple of weeks.

As part of our celebrations, we announced the individual class medals which are awarded for progress in PE across the school year, and it was lovely to hear more about the individual achievements of the winners. In addition, we also present individual awards to someone in Year 2 and a boy and girl from Year 6 who have shown amazing sportsmanship, abilities across the sporting curriculum, a willingness to have a go at different sports and who is a fantastic sporting role model. Congratulations to all of our individual winners and thanks to Kington Festival Committee who provide the Y6 awards, in particular Emma, who was able to award our Y6 cups.

The efforts of everyone at sports day are added together as a house total and decide the winners of the KS1 Cup and KS2 shield. After a very close result, we were pleased to announce that Wales won the KS1 Cup and Scotland won the KS2 shield. Well done to everyone.

We have also had a brilliantly busy week apart from sports day!

Across school, we are working on our assessment weeks with everyone working so hard to show the fantastic progress which they have made this school year. In particular, both Year 1 and Year 4 are doing brilliantly in their phonics checks and multiplication tables check.

We started the week with an assembly where we thought about our monthly value 'responsibility' and were pleased to be sharing a brand-new assembly song which was great fun to sing!  We have also enjoyed an assembly with Reverend Sally. She spoke to us about the parable of the Good Samaritan and the unexpected help that the injured man had, which was a story that made us think about kindness and caring. She ended her assembly with her magical sparkling candle which always amazes and excites us.

We have also had our new emergency anaphylaxis kit put up in a new central place by Mr. Smith. Our new kit has been purchased and funded by our Friends group, and it is an important addition to our school, so 'thank you' to this group of parents for their support.

In more sports news, a Year 6 team went to the Tag Fest competition at Luctonians with Mrs. Bretherton and Mrs. Turner. They played brilliantly and made it to the semi-final of the vase competition and lost by one try! We are all so proud of your enthusiasm and commitment when representing our school.

We hope that everyone has a super weekend and look forward to seeing you all on Monday ready for another fabulous week.
