  • Weekly Catch Up 20th March

Welcome to our weekly news from the 20th March 2026.

We have had such a wonderfully busy week in school this week and would love to share it with you.

On Monday in assembly, we congratulated our latest badge winners, which our house captains proudly awarded. We also heard about one of Mrs Welson's favourite poems as a child, which was 'On the Ning Nang Nong' by Spike Milligan, which we thought was very funny and a tricky poem to get right!

Monday was a busy day as our Y5 girls enjoyed their second 'here girls can' morning up at LHS with some of their Y7 girls. This time they explored kick boxing, which everyone agreed was great fun, challenging and exciting. We are so pleased that we are part of this fantastic project supported by BBC Children in Need.

Also, on Monday, our Reception class were very excited to be going on a trip! They had a wonderful morning of music, enjoying songs and rhythms which made them want to move their feet and get up and move! You can see from the photos how much fun they had.

On Tuesday, we had enrichment for the morning, which was brilliant, with our children exploring art as a way of expressing our feelings and supporting mental health, learning about India as part of our diversity work, helping our community by litter picking, exploring AI and considering safer use of this technology, created some delicious muffins with a focus on healthier ingredients and strengthening community links by entertaining the residents at Kington Court. The children and staff had a fantastic morning and worked brilliantly together on their shared activities. Thank you to all of our fabulous staff team who work so hard to make this half-termly morning such a successful experience for everyone.

Reception welcomed some of their parents on Tuesday afternoon for their maths workshop where parents and children explored some of the super maths from Reception together. Everyone had a great time and learnt some important things about how maths is introduced and developed with some of our youngest children.

On Wednesday, our school councillors were busy making plans for future projects and holding important discussions. Our School Council met with Kington's mayor, Mr Sell, to discuss how town council meetings work and thinking of important issues which they would like our town council to consider. Our Sports Council met to plan their exciting physical challenges which will be started after the Easter holidays with prizes to be won and to think about how to share this information through an assembly.

On Thursday, Years 5 and 6 were so proud to share their Victorian models with their families. The hall was filled with the most fantastic guides for the pop-up museum, appreciative visitors who were very impressed with the creations and proud children who were excited to be able to share their work with their families.

We also had a 'grand opening' of our new area where members of our community here in Kington and wider in Herefordshire were invited to have a look at our fantastic new spaces. Everyone who attended was very impressed with the new spaces and facilities and appreciated how much work had gone into the project.

Today Years 5 and 6 have gone on their trip to St Fagans to support their Victorian topic work further. They have arrived safely and are having a wonderful time exploring all of the different buildings available at this wonderful museum, in particular, enjoying their Victorian schoolroom experience. We look forward to hearing all about it next week and will share some photos with you on next week's blog.

In the assembly today, we have celebrated children who have been lovely role models for others to follow, who are working so hard on their individual targets, for doing well with their writing and for showing our school values of perseverance and courage. Congratulations to you all.

Thank you to everyone who has been able to support our collection for 'Comic Relief' and worn their silly socks. We have been so pleased to support this national charity and their important work.

We are proud of the individual reports which are coming home today and hope that families find these informative and celebratory reads. Thank you to our class teachers who have worked hard to produce the reports, and we look forward to seeing as many of you as possible next week at our 'Book Look' parents' evenings. This is a special opportunity for you and your child to share their work from the current academic year and to see first-hand the progress which they are making in a variety of subject areas. Please contact the school office to book in.

We would like to wish everyone a great weekend, and we hope that the beautiful weather lasts. We look forward to welcoming everyone back to school on Monday for our last week together before the Easter holidays.
