Welcome everyone to our weekly catch-up of news from across our busy school.

To start our blog this week we must say a huge 'Thank you' to our amazing 'Friends' group who organised and ran our fantastic school discos last Friday evening. A wonderful time was had by all, and we raised a super amount of funds which will support our children with exciting activities and resources in the future.

We would also like to say 'Thank you and well done' to our four Y6s who represented our school so beautifully at the Kington Remembrance march and gathering at the town's memorial. We were so proud of how they conducted themselves, the respect that they showed and the way that they shared the poem with everyone who was there.

The theme of remembrance was also shared with the whole school through Y6's assembly, where they were able to help everyone understand the importance of remembrance and shared some examples of the most brilliant writing based on evacuees during World War II. This assembly set a very respectful and thoughtful tone for the rest of the school, and we would like to thank all of the children and staff in Y6 for putting so much work into this.

We were pleased to welcome Emily and Bella from WEST, who worked with our Years 4 and 5 classes on the theme of sleeping and were very, very impressed with how our children engaged in the workshop, the quality of their understanding and ideas and their general behaviour. 'Thank you' Years 4 and 5 for representing our school so well. Emily and Bella also had a lovely time with our group of parents who shared the parental sleep workshop. 'Thank you' to all who came.

Mrs Roberts-Powell presented a fantastic parent maths workshop to our Year 1 parents which the children thoroughly enjoyed being part of. 'Thank you' to Mrs Roberts Powell and everyone who was able to attend.

We know how lucky we are to be at the heart of our community here in Kington and this week we have enjoyed visiting different places, including the library, museum and the fire station.

Years 2 and 4 had a wonderful time with Angela at Kington library and were so pleased to have the opportunity to explore the library and their wonderful books without any other visitors there! We know that other classes have plans to also visit with Angela, and we are grateful for these opportunities.

Years 3 and 6 have visited the museum and were amazed to explore the variety of wonderful artefacts and displays that are found there and heard about stories and people that they had not realised had a link to Kington. We are very lucky that we also have other classes who are going to be able to visit the museum so we pass our appreciation on to the volunteers who are making this possible.

Our Reception class returned to the fire station this week and had a fantastic time! They were so excited to learn more about the important work that our firefighters do and were impressed with the power of the water used!

Thank you so much to everyone in our community who have welcomed any of our classes this week. We really appreciate the opportunities that you have given us.

In our assemblies and PSHE time this week we have all been thinking about 'anti-bullying' to link with the national 'anti-bullying' week, which is this week. With Mrs Bretherton on Monday, we explored what bullying was and how the theme for this year is to use 'your strength for good'. Our children had some super ideas for how they could use their power in this way. We welcomed Phillippa from St Mary's, who led us in an interesting assembly which linked to positive friendships by asking us to all consider how we are all an important piece of the jigsaw which makes our school community such a caring and supportive one to be part of.

Our building work continues to make progress and in our weekly staff meeting this week, the teaching staff  were allowed to have a look around and were impressed with the changes made. We appreciate, as always, the hard work which the build team are putting into our project.

In our celebration assembly today we have all enjoyed hearing about the great achievements rewarded with a Headteacher's sticker. This week we heard that children have been the most wonderful friend to others, shown what a super leader they can be when working in a group, for going that 'extra mile' in class, for showing determination in PE and for having a fantastic attitude towards all that they do.

To end our blog this week, we would like to 'Thank you' all for your fantastic donations to 'Children in Need'. This is such an important charity which does wonderful work to help so many children across the UK. We have raised more than £160! What an amazing amount.

We hope that everyone has a wonderful weekend and enjoys whatever you are doing, and we look forward to seeing everyone on Monday.
