We are pleased to share with you all the news from our busy week here at Kington Primary.

Wow, what a hot week this has been! Well done everyone for staying as cool as we can and for bringing in your hats and drinks to help with the extreme heat. The heat has not stopped us from having a super week across school and we would like to share these highlights with you.

We hope that all families have had the chance to read the final OFSTED report which was shared with you all this week. We are really proud of the recognition for our school which this report highlights and in particular, the many strengths across school which it identifies, in particular our wonderful children and staff.

We have had a quieter second half to our week in school as a group of Years 5 and 6 have been on their residential visit to Red-Ridge and have had the most amazing time exploring the different activities and challenges that this type of opportunity offers. Please look out for photographs of this experience over the next few weeks. Thank you to all of the staff involved in organising and supporting this brilliant experience.

In school, Key Stage 2 continue to prepare for their summer show 'What a Knight' and tickets will be available to buy for our 2 performances on Friday 4th July soon. We have all been busy learning the songs and Years 5 and 6 who have stayed with us have been making some fantastic props. We really look forward to sharing this show with you all.

In our assemblies this week we have thought about Refugee week and Mrs Bachmnan led a very personal and thoughtful assembly on Monday. We heard about members of her own family who had been refugees during WW2 and the journey that they had had to make to reach safety in Herefordshire. We were so privileged to be able to see the suitcase which had been brought here containing special items from their home. Our children were so respectful and interested to learn about all refugees and the reasons behind this and Paddington helped us all to understand this tricky theme. We also considered people around the world who find themselves refugees right now and we were lucky enough to hear Roman's wonderful poem based on this theme, which we would like to share with you now.

    I am a refugee

    Why can’t we have friendship,

    Why can’t we love people?

    Why can’t we be friends?

    Why can’t we do that?

We don’t need to kill people

We are the same, black people, white

People have got arms like we do.

We have legs, they have legs, we are just the same.

We both have bodies and they've got bodies too.

We are the same people, no need to fight.

Today, we have had our Head Teacher's stickers assembly and, as always, have been amazed at the different reasons which class teachers have been able to identify. This week our reasons included the most wonderful writing, which was a reason given several times! The skills being shown included using great vocabulary in their written work, using accurate spellings and grammar throughout their pieces and for having such pleasure and pride in their own work. Other reasons included showing our best to new people, being a very calm influence on others and showing all of the qualities which we value here at Kington. Amazing job everyone, congratulations from us all.

We hope that everyone has a super weekend and enjoy the sunshine if you are able to. We look forward to hearing all about Red-Ridge and seeing everyone back together again on Monday.
