  • Weekly News 28th November

Welcome everybody to our weekly update from our amazing school.

We do not know if everyone is feeling this way, but in school it really does feel like November has gone in the blink of an eye, and we cannot believe that we have only 3 weeks of this term remaining!

This week has been a busy, happy and productive week in many different ways, and we would like to share some of our highlights with you.

In our assemblies we have continued to think about signs of peace and heard about significant people who are known for their connection to this value. This is a link to a resource which some classes have been able to share which helps to understand why Ghandi is considered to be a historical figure who reflected the value of peace.

Our Year 5 and Year 6 classes were so pleased to be able to welcome so many of their families to our soup tasting session on Thursday, and it was lovely to see the pride in which they were sharing their delicious soup and bread. Thank you to everyone who was able to come and enjoy this experience.

Today in school we have been very lucky to welcome visitors into our Year 2, Year 3 and Year 5 classes.

Years 2 and 3 have been able to work with Julie from the Herefordshire road safety team and have been learning all about how to be safe when walking on pavements and crossing the road with an adult. Our children in both classes have shown wonderful understanding and have listened so carefully to all of the important information which Julie has shared with them.

Year 5 have been working with Ingrid and Steve from 'Hands Up for the Planet' and considered environmental themes for the day. They have thoroughly enjoyed exploring the variety of different activities and have been able to think about important ideas related to the environment both locally and globally.

As many of you will know, the Christmas lights in Kington were turned on this week, and we hope that everyone spotted our window lights, which help to make our school look even more magical! We have also been excited to put up our school Christmas tree today, with Mrs Bachmann and her group of volunteers doing a brilliant job to decorate the tree so beautifully.

Our building project continues at pace and this week we have been pleased to see the new exterior wall being fixed to the Year 3 and 6 block and today the scaffolding has been taken down. We are all very pleased with the green colour of the new panels. As you can see from the photos, the work continues inside and the rooms are definitely taking shape.

Thank you to those families who attended our Years 1, 4 and 6 information workshops on Tuesday. The feedback was really positive and parents appreciated the opportunity to find out more about the national assessments ahead for these year groups.

Our celebration assembly took place on Wednesday due to classes working with visitors today and although class staff only had 2 and a bit days to think of their nominees, the reasons shared were as fantastic as normal. This week we heard about children across school who had impressed their adults with their writing, enthusiasm, listening, the progress which they are making, their swimming, for writing wonderful instructions and for making really positive choices on the playground. What super reasons and congratulations to you all.

Each month, apart from December, where it will be everyone across school, we will be sharing learning from a specific year group and for November it is Year 4. We hope that you enjoy seeing our learning experiences, which have ranged from Forest School, school nursing workshops, drama, library visits and square numbers!

Don't forget that tomorrow is our Christmas Fayre organised and run by our fantastic 'Friends' association. The Fayre is at The Bake House, Turners Garden Centre and starts at 10.30 am. There are many different stalls with crafts to buy, our 'Friends' are running stalls which have lovely prizes to be won, there is a grotto to visit and much, much more. Thank you to everyone who donated sweets and chocolates today for the stalls tomorrow.

We hope that you all have a super weekend, and we look forward to welcoming you all on Monday when it will be December!
