Welcome to our weekly round up of exciting news from across school.
Our week began with an assembly where Mrs. Bretherton shared with us a beautiful poem about hope linking again to the idea of the seed growing with the influence of hope, which was enjoyed by everyone.
On Wednesday, Phillippa from St. Mary's led assembly and shared with us different images of light sources asking us to think about why light is important. We were able to explain the many different sources of light and to think about how it is a useful thing. Phillippa then told us how, as a Christian, she also connects light with her beliefs about God.
Year 3 had a wonderful time at the Rec being part of the 'RSPC schools birdwatch' and have each received a certificate to mark their involvement. Year 3 had seen the initiative being publicised on 'Newsround' and decided that they would like to take part. As you can see from the lovely photos, they did manage to spot quite a few different birds, including a red kite!
The bird theme continued in Years 2 and 4 as they focused on birdsong during their Meadow Arts sessions and considered how the different sounds could be represented in patterns and lines. The children explored this in school and then went to the Rec to explore birdsong that could be heard and reflect this in painting patterns and movement. A great time was had by all and the work produced was interesting and creative.
This month we are focusing on the amazing learning happening in Year 2, and they have been enjoying the art project but also other exciting opportunities to support their learning. Whether it be cricket with Abi, writing their own versions of a focus story, doing some tricky maths or just finding pleasure in a book, Year 2 always show their best and are such good role models for our youngest children.
Today, we have been able to celebrate the individual achievements of two children from every class from Reception through to Year 6. The descriptions which we all listened to today included generating and being able to talk about numbers in Year 1, showing amazing patience at all times, having a fantastic attitude and making wonderful progress. We also heard how children had been putting an amazing effort into their phonics, been a great role model to others, completing high-quality homework, actively joining in with learning opportunities and coping well with challenging work, being keen to show the best that they can do. 'Congratulations' and 'well done' to you all, it was really inspiring to hear about the reasons which class teachers had thought about this week.
Our build team continue to make progress with our project and this week they have made a super start on the outside space, which we are really looking forward to using to support our learning and started to work on the flooring and decoration of the new spaces. We are edging closer to the completion of our project and can't wait to confirm with our community when the area will have an opening.
Today it is also disco day! We thank our 'Friends' group for all of their continuing hard work, but particularly today as they have been busy preparing everything to help everyone enjoy their disco and to help raise money for school. Have a fantastic time if you are coming back to school for one of the discos.
We would like to wish everyone a very 'happy weekend' and will be pleased to welcome everyone back on Monday.
