Please enjoy our news this week from across our lovely school.
It is hard to believe that it has been the last week of this half term! We have had such a brilliant busy week here at school and would like to share some of the highlights with you.
On Monday, we started the week with an assembly with Mrs Bretherton who continued to share a focus from 'black history month' and we learnt about a significant person Dr Paul Stevenson, whose campaign resulted in an important change in equality and Malorie Blackman who has achieved so much in her career as an author and children’s laureate.
In our Wednesday assembly we heard all about the attendance across school for this half term and we were pleased to be able to say 'well done' to Year 5 who achieved 97% and they have all really enjoyed their treat of non-uniform today. We also congratulated our winner of the 'values' tickets and it was great to see how excited and proud our prize winner was.
On Thursday, we all celebrated those across school who had been chosen for our half termly achievement certificates and were impressed with the wonderful reasons given including many who had been identified for being great role models for others. We also heard that certificate winners had been settling well into their new year groups this half term, playing positively with their friends, for developing resilience and perseverance, for making great progress with their maths, for sharing an incredible dedication to learning and for being such a positive friend within their class.
We were so pleased to welcome so many families to our two parents evenings on Tuesday and Wednesday and we really do appreciate your support, conversations and feedback. 'Thank you' to our class teaching staff who had worked so hard to prepare for these sessions and to give such personal purposeful information about each child.
Today, we have been able to support our netball and football teams as they take part in our annual Mitchell Hamer tournament held up at LHS. We are so pleased to let you know that our football team came second and our netball team third. We were so impressed with the effort, commitment and pride that was obvious from everyone who took part in all of our teams. Congratulations to everyone who took part in the competition.
It has been an amazing morning of competition, enjoyment and sporting friendships between different schools and we would like to thank both Mr. Ward-Willis and Mrs. A. Welson for their hard work organising and running the competitions and to Mrs Joyce, Mrs Wood, Mrs Painter and Mr Fotheringham for their valuable help on the day.
While Mitchell Hamer was being played the rest of the school welcomed 'wonderful woodwind' who had come to see us, teach us about their brilliant instruments and play some magical pieces for us. We all agreed it was fantastic, very impressive and inspiring.
Year 4 have continued to enjoy their Forest School sessions and were so excited to be up 'at site' this week and you can see the amazing activities which they were working on and the fun that they had!
Our building project continues to develop well and our fantastic builders are going to be working hard throughout the holidays and we really look forward to seeing the new developments when we come back after the break.
We are also including with this week’s blog a link to the BBC 500 words competition which could be something that you would like to have a look at over half term.
We would like to wish everyone a very 'happy half term' and look forward to hearing all about the fun and exciting things that you explore and enjoy. Thank you to everyone for your support this half term and we look forward to welcoming you all back to school on Monday 3rd November.
