Weekly News 14th September 2026

Welcome everyone to our weekly round up of news here at Kington Primary.

Please be aware that this year the blog will be published on a Monday.

We had a great week together last week and were able to spend the whole week together, which, although some of us were very tired by Friday, was lovely and really positive to share.

We started the week with a whole class assembly where Mrs Welson introduced to us our 2 school values for September, which are 'friendship' and 'kindness'. We thought about how these two values are linked and how they can be shown. Mrs Welson shared a BBC clip with us where children talked about the importance of friendship and how you must try to have 'healthy' friendships.

On Wednesday, we welcomed Hannah from 'Checkpoint' who led an assembly based on friendship. Hannah explained how, as a Christian, she sees Jesus as one of her friends and how this brings her comfort.

It was so lovely on Thursday, to welcome Mrs Hedley back to school but this time as a supply teacher! Whilst Mrs Bretherton is not in school, to support Mrs Welson and Mrs Argyle, Mrs Hedley will be covering in Year 5 once a week, and it was such a pleasure to welcome her back.

In Friday's shared assembly we were all concentrating with interest on the speeches being made by all of the incredible Year 6 volunteers who had put themselves up for election as a House Captain. Each and every speech was well written and presented, and it gave all of the children from Year 2 upwards quite a challenge as they decided who would get their vote!

In today's assembly, Mrs Welson and Mr Ward-Willis announced the successful Year 6s who have been voted in as House Captains and the whole school gave them a huge 'Congratulations'. We know that they will each work brilliantly for their house and represent Kington Primary ever so well. Today, we also awarded the Head Teacher stickers. We were so pleased to be able to say 'Well Done and Thank You'. We heard some fantastic reasons for the stickers, including being wonderful role models, showing their best all of the time, being ready to learn, amazing maths work, impressing everyone in their new class with their positive attitude and hard work. What a fantastic way to start our week!

Across school, our after-school clubs have all started, and it has been great to see how the different clubs are being enjoyed. Please see the school office if you are interested. We have also been pleased to see how families are starting to use both the established breakfast club but also the new free session from 8.25am. Again, please see the school office for details as both breakfast clubs do need to be booked.

On Saturday, Mrs Welson, Mrs Palferman, Mrs Wood and Mrs Mills were at Kington Show on our school stall, and it was so lovely to see so many friends from school, those who were part of our school in previous years and families who are going to be joining us. It was great to be able to share with families information about our Monday toddler group, which has restarted from 2pm until 3.30pm.

We hope that everyone has a great week, and we look forward to sharing with you next Monday exciting updates from this coming week.
