If last week's theme of the blog was thinking about how brilliantly everyone coped with the heatwave, then this week is definitely sport! We have had such a fantastic week of sporting opportunities, and we would like to share this and other news with you.

On Monday, we were so pleased to be able to host our annual sports day at LHS. The weather was great for all of the different sporting activities and races to take place. We were all so impressed with the effort and determination shown by our wonderful children to compete for their house and do their absolute best in all of the events. We were pleased to announce that Wales won the Key Stage 1 Sports Day competition with the individual KS1 cup being awarded for fantastic sportsmanship, enthusiasm and commitment. In Key Stage 2 the house competition was won by Scotland and individual sports awards were presented to two of our Year 6s who have shown wonderful leadership qualities, a true commitment to school sport and personal growth throughout KS2. Emma, from the Kington Festival Committee, who kindly gifted these trophies, presented these very special awards. We also shared the class medals for each class in school from Reception upwards and heard about the most amazing progress in PE this year, the personal changes, developments in resilience and teamwork and the fantastic leadership and role modelling that our medal winners have demonstrated. A huge 'congratulations' to you all. Thank you to all of our staff team for making our sports day so successful.

On Tuesday, our fantastic Y4 class shared the physical games and activities which they have been designing and planning in their PE sessions for their Y2 friends. Year 2 agreed that Y4 had done a great job and had definitely kept them moving! Thank you Year 4 for all of our creativity, hard work and determination in this project.

We also heard from Mrs Bachmann and 2 of our amazing children as they shared with us a wonderful, thought-provoking 'refugees assembly' where we heard might it could be like being a refugee and the reasons for this. We also thought about how difficult it must be to move to a country where a different language to your own is spoken. We tried to learn some Ukrainian and it was a real challenge. Thank you to Mrs Bachmann and her helpers.

On Wednesday, we were excited to take over 40 KS2 children to Hereford to take part in the 'Herefordshire Summer Games'. We participated in girls football, multiskills, team building and tag rugby. All of our children had a wonderful time and represented our school so brilliantly. Our Y4 multiskills team were awarded a special plaque which reflects the enthusiasm, positive energy and sporting spirit that they showed throughout the whole day. 'Congratulations' to you all, we were very proud to take you all to this amazing experience which involved 1,500 children.

We have also found out this week that we were awarded the Platinum Sports Award for last academic year and are hoping that we will keep this status this coming year too. This award reflects the commitment and hard work which our wonderful staff team put into our PE and sports curriculum, but also the importance of the leadership roles which our super children engage with through our play leaders and well-being warriors roles.

Thursday was also a very exciting day across school as we all had our 'transition' morning where we get to try out our new classes for September. This was a really successful morning with a feeling of excitement in the air as all of our children impressed their new teachers and support staff with their enthusiasm, focus and positivity about the new school year ahead. Our Y6 class also had their transition up to high school and shared with us today how positive this had been for them too.

We have also held our summer term parents' evenings this week, and these were a great opportunity to share  with our families the super progress that our children have made this term and throughout the whole year.

Today, we have had a very busy celebration assembly where we have shared the 'pupdate' videos for Henry and Custard with everyone being very impressed with their new skills and progress. We also congratulated the winning artists from the recent pet portrait competition, someone who has achieved their first grade piano, the children who had been part of our Summer Games teams and our headteacher sticker winners.

This week we heard about children who have coped really well with transition, others who have made huge progress with their reading and for always being the best role models for others in everything that they do. We also heard about children who have impressed with their personal growth and improving confidence in different situations, for being a positive influence in their class, and a 'thank you' to Miss Whitcombe, who has been a wonderful student teacher in our Year 5 class.

We would like to thank our amazing group of 'Friends' who organised last week's summer fayre. Thank you to everyone who supported the event. We will let you know the final amount raised next week. This money will help to support exciting learning opportunities for children across school next year.
