Throughout the year, we explore our core values, which are: Hope, Trust, Courage & Perseverance, Respect, Cooperation, Responsibility, Kindness & Friendship, Honesty, Peace and Understanding. We do this during our daily assemblies and look out for them throughout the school, earning Values Vouchers and Beads as we go.

In July, we focus on all the values together.

We have all had a lovely, busy last week of the half term and it has been jam packed with moments of celebration, enrichment activities, visits within our community and opportunities to explore our value of 'trust'.

On Tuesday, we had our third enrichment morning of this school year for all children from Year 1 through to Year 6. The children always welcome the opportunity to work with their enrichment group of friends and to explore different activities with adults across school.

Our fantastic adults all work so hard to make sure that this morning is purposeful, engaging and enjoyable for all.

As you can see from the photos Beech group, who visited Kington Court, did a fantastic job of sharing songs and poems and made everyone a 'Happy February' card which were treasured by the residents. This is such an important element of our enrichment community activities.

Our other groups had a wonderful time exploring ideas to help promote our school on our new updated website (hoping to launch in the next half term), learning about making noodles as a healthy meal option, being part of activities to promote mindfulness such as yoga, supporting our wider community with litter picking and focusing on still life using different media.

This week, Year 5 visited Kington library where Angela welcomed them back and shared stories with them. This will have been good preparation Y5 for World Book Day!

In our assemblies this week, we have thought more about the value of 'trust' and how important this is to healthy friendships. We welcomed Hannah from 'Checkpoint' on Wednesday and enjoyed the story which she shared with us.

We have also shared the video diaries of our guide dog puppies, Custard and Jack, which we all enjoyed seeing. Both of our sponsored puppies have made a really positive start to their training at the National Training Centre and we look forward to further pup-dates!

Our celebration assemblies on Thursday and Friday were a chance to say 'Congratulations and well done!' for many different reasons. We were able to award the class attendance prize for this half term to Years 2 and 5 who drew with exactly the same attendance figure! They are looking forward to planning their reward after the holiday.

We also awarded our individual prize for children who have been given one of our 'values tickets'. Everyone is working so hard to reflect our values in all that they do and there were so many tickets in the hat, congratulations if you had been given a ticket for the draw.

Our 'achievement' assembly today was made extra special by our important visitor....Mrs. Bretherton, who visited us this morning. We were all so excited and pleased to see her. We were all proud to hear of the different reasons that our certificate children had been chosen for and these included; for making amazing progress in spelling and reading, for being a positive role model giving 100% all of the time, for showing resilience and perserverance, for working really hard to improve presentation and for developing healthier friendships. Mrs. Bretherton even surprised Mrs. Welson with her own certificate! At the end of our assembly we were treated to a taster from Mrs. Darch and Mrs. Wood, from the upcoming Kington pantomime 'Dick Whittington', we were all very excited and entertained by their song.

Across KS2 it has been the first time presenting the draw prize for completing homework and collecting the stamps. Our happy winners were really excited with their prizes and we look forward to our next draw next half term.

Today, you will have been emailed our annual reading newsletter which has details of the whole school competition linked to World Book Day (the paper plate which has come home today) and information about how we are celebrating this special day along with information about reading in our school. Please let us know if you did not receive the newsletter.

We hope that everyone has a 'happy half term' and we look forward to welcoming everyone back to school on Monday 24th February and hearing about the things you have done or places that you have visited.

This week we have been starting to think about our new value 'Trust' and already have a really clear understanding of what this means and what it looks like in action.

It has been another busy, productive week across school with cricket coaching in Years 2, 3, 4 and 5, Peace workshop work in Year 5 and we welcomed Mr. Spencer back for PE today which was lovely.

Our school librarians had a special visit from Angela, who works in Kington and Leominster libraries, and she gave us some brilliant advice about how to keep our school library engaging, organised and easy to use. Classes across school continue to visit Kington library at least once a term and this is a very important community link for us. We encourage you all to become members and to enjoy time exploring their wonderful books.

Last week we also had some special visitors in school who were particularly enjoyed by our Reception class....chicks! Our Reception children loved seeing the chicks up close and were so careful and caring when welcoming them to their fantastic learning space. Reception also combined their weekly 'welly walk' with their story 'We're going on a bear hunt' and found the most amazing things in nature as they walked.

This week we have been so pleased to celebrate Headteacher stickers for really super reasons including amazing progress over the half term, showing resilience when faced with a difficult situation,  being a supportive friend, brilliant spelling, working with superb focus, effort and determination and showing fantastic cricketing skills.

We hope that everyone has a great weekend and we look forward to welcoming you back on Monday morning, ready for our last week before the half term holiday!

It has been such a productive and enjoyable week across school . We have all enjoyed the moments of beautiful sunshine and had some lovely time outside.

We started the week with Mrs. Welson's assembly with the theme of 'hopes and dreams'.  We have been gifted a copy of the enchanting story 'The Little Ocean' written by Matthew Berto. Mrs. Welson shared this story with everyone and explained about the characters in the book having their own hopes and dreams. The book has an important local connection, which Mrs. Welson also shared, because it is linked to Annasley Park who is from our local area and attended LHS. One of her personal hopes and dreams has been to row across the Atlantic Ocean on her own to raise important funds for 4 charities. She is setting sail in the next couple of days (weather dependent) and we will track her journey as much as we can. The storybook and her own personal story were both interesting to share and inspiring for all of us.

This week we have also welcomed Reverend Sally to lead her first assembly with us. She shared an important story for Christians about Jesus visiting a temple and lit a very exciting candle to help explain that candles are important objects for people who follow Christianity. We impressed Reverend Sally with our wonderful singing as we shared our 'I have a song' assembly song.

This week Head Teacher stickers have been given for such lovely reasons including brilliant maths, always giving 100% in all that they do, showing resilience when faced with a tricky challenge, being fantastic role models, being able to try new things and show determination when doing so and for being a good friend. Congratulations to you all.

In our Friday assembly we also awarded our weekly attendance prize and were all very impressed with Year 5, who last week, achieved an attendance of 99.2%! Amazing Year 5, we hope that you have enjoyed your extra playtime today.

We hope that you all have a wonderful weekend and look forward to welcoming you all back on Monday. Unbelievably, it will of course, be February on Monday and so we will start exploring together our new value which is 'Trust'.

We have had a lovely week in school with moments of beautiful sunshine which have been welcomed by everyone.

We have been thinking about the value of 'hope' in our assemblies and have learnt 2 lovely songs to reflect this and we thought that we would share the words of one of these with you. We really enjoy singing this together and think that it reinforces our value well.

The song is called 'I have a song to sing' and is written by Mark and Helen Johnson for Out of the Ark music.

I have a song to sing,

      It has a simple melody,

      Let everybody sing,

      There's life in our unity,

      There's hope in our song.

Our Headteacher stickers this week were awarded for. amazing early writing, working hard in all areas but especially reading including at home, being a positive role model in all that they do, showing our school values all of the time, being a supportive friend to others, wowing their teacher with extra maths completed at home, coming back to school with a great attitude and showing wonderful resilience when faced with a challenge.

In our assembly we also met our mini versions of Jack and Custard which caused a lot of excitement in the hall as did Reception coming to assembly for the first time! Reception did so well and joined in fantastically.

This week we were also excited to hear more about the 'Young Voices' trip from last Friday. You can see from the pictures the amazing experience that they had. Thank you to all of our brilliant staff who planned and organised this wonderful trip.

We would like to draw attention to a new area of our website for parents which contains advice and information about accessing online resources at home. This can be found under the 'Parents' tab. We hope that these resources will be useful to you.

We also have our 'Parents' Forum' next Thursday at 2.30pm where we will be discussing our school website developments and asking for feedback on the current website features and information that support our families the most or any new ideas to consider. If you are able to attend please let the school office know in person, telephone or by email. We look forward to seeing you there.

We hope that everyone has a good weekend, despite the predicted weather, and we look forward to seeing you on Monday.

We have had a wonderful first whole week of the new term with exciting learning happening all across school.

This week children in Yrs 2, 3, 4 and 5 have had the amazing opportunity to start working again with Abi, our Herefordshire cricket coach. This week we have worked on practising our throwing and catching skills while at the same time working on teamwork and co-operation.

We also welcomed Vic, our Forest Schools leader, on Wednesday, as she worked with Year 3. The children had a super time in our garden area, enjoying some much appreciated sunshine!

Year 5 had a really thoughtful and productive time with the 'Hands Up' charity thinking about climate change and working together to explore the ideas being discussed during the sessions led by Ingrid and Kate.

This morning, we have waved our 'Young Voices' choir off as they travel to be part of the exciting concert alongside thousands of other keen singers from across the UK. They have arrived safely and are already having a super time.

In our sticker assembly today we heard about children who have been working particularly hard on their maths work, including fractions, demonstrating lovely manners all the time, producing quality written work, showing 100% effort this week and for using impressive vocabulary in art.

We hope that everyone has a lovely weekend and we look forward to seeing you all on Monday.

It has been so lovely to welcome everyone back to a new school term but also a whole new calendar year! We hope that everyone had an amazing Christmas break and have had a super start to their New Year.

We have only been back together for 3 days but they have proved to be just as exciting, happy and busy as our 5 day weeks normally are!

We started the week with a 'welcome back' assembly where Mrs. Welson was able to share our first 'pup-date' from the Guide Dogs sponsorship which we started just before the holidays. We have had pictures of Custard and Jack and a lovely letter telling us all about their first experiences as they start their training.

We also began to think about our new value for January which is 'Hope' and shared ideas about what we thought this value meant and how it can be shown. We will continue to explore this new value in Monday's assembly.

This week's headteacher stickers were awarded for a variety of fabulous reasons, as normal, but this week included settling well into our school, starting the new term in a really positive way, showing great effort when working on challenging learning and supporting their friends in a very kind and caring way. We were all very impressed that in just 3 days these qualities had been able to be spotted. We also welcomed our new lovely student teacher Ms. Shipley who has been working with our fantastic Year 5 class for a couple of days and has enjoyed the start of her placement with us.

It has been such a chilly start to our new term but everyone has been so sensible wrapping up warm and being patient about playtimes and lunchtimes which have needed to change a little this week - thank you everyone.

We hope that you all have a great weekend and look forward to seeing you all on Monday.

This week has been such a magical and exciting one for us all. We would like to say a huge 'Thank you' to all of the adults who work in our wonderful school, they have each put so much effort into making this last week of term so special, we really do appreciate you all.

Our fantastic week included KS2's atmospheric concert at St. Mary's on Tuesday night, which was so well supported by our amazing families that there was standing room only! The children performed 'Jesus' Christmas Party' with enthusiasm and joy and everyone, who was lucky enough to be there, was so impressed.

On Wednesday, we had a special assembly where our Sports Council awarded their prizes for the KS2 active playtimes competition which they have been running. The results achieved by the 4 prize winners for bouncing a netball and throwing and catching a tennis ball amazed the whole school! We also announced the winners of our recent poetry competition and the super winning entries will be on display after the holidays in the school library. In addition, we awarded our half termly values ticket prize and we discovered which class had won this half term's attendance prize which will be enjoyed in the New Year. A very excited Year 6 were the winners this time around.

On Wednesday, we were also treated to a delicious Christmas lunch from LHS which our lunchtime team made such a lovely experience for all. Alongside our lunch our fabulous Year 6 children organised and ran a wonderful variety of different stalls. The other classes were so enthusiastic to be in with a chance of winning one of the very exciting prizes! Thank you so much Year 6.

Thursday, was our class party day and as you can see from the small selection of pictures everyone had a fun time. The games and activities which class adults had organised were really creative and engaging, the buzz around school was such a lovely thing to be part of.

Today, we have ended our week with our important end of term achievement certificates. The reasons that class teachers have shared included children who consistently show our school values,  demonstrating great personal progress this half term,  having a brilliant attitude towards learning and being a super role model for others. During our special assembly we were able to share with the children that thanks to the generosity of donations given at the KS1 and KS2 performances, we have raised enough money to sponsor 2 guide dogs in training.  Our pups are called Custard and Jack! Thank you to anyone who was able to donate. The money raised at the EYFS performance and Y6 stalls has been gratefully received by Save the Children.

We were chosen this week to be hosts for the St Mary's travelling crib and it had pride of place in the entrance for the day that it visited us for.

This week we have also said a 'Thank you and good luck' to Miss Price who has been supporting children in our youngest classes and to Mrs. Oliver who is leaving our lunchtime team. Thank you both for the care and dedication that you have shown in these roles.

Finally, we would like to say 'Thank you' to all of our wonderful families who have supported us all, this term. We would like to wish everybody a really Happy Christmas and a Happy Healthy New Year. We look forward to seeing you all in 2025!

We have had such a special week in school with the opportunity to all share both the KS1 and Early Years Christmas performances. Everyone who has been lucky enough to be in the audience for these special events have been excited to hear such beautiful singing, see the wonderful acting, narration and dancing from our younger children. This has been a truly magical start to our Christmas celebrations, thank you to all of our brilliant staff who have supported our children to share such fantastic performances. We look forward to sharing our KS2 Christmas Concert with our families, next Tuesday 6pm at St. Mary's.

This week has also been an opportunity for strengthening more community links with a group of enthusiastic singers entertaining residents of Marwick Close which was a lovely experience.

Years 5 and 6 had an exciting trip to Birmingham Botanical Gardens to learn more about the natural world and biomes in particular. Everyone had a fabulous time and enjoyed the chance to explore and discover new things about places and the animals which live in them.

Our headteacher stickers this week were awarded in our classrooms and reasons given were as varied and wonderful as they always are! This week children were chosen for showing our school values at all times, conquering fears to take part in performances and new experiences, showing superb knowledge and understanding on the trip, consistently being a positive role model and for showing determination to keep doing their best especially at this very busy time of the term. Congratulations to all.

We are looking forward to a really exciting last week of term next week, which will include KS2's Christmas performance, Christmas lunch day, Year 6 stalls, class party day (where we can wear our party clothes/Christmas jumpers), our Friends of Kington Primary School's fundraising stall (more details to follow) and Achievement assembly.

What an amazingly busy week we have had across our amazing school!

On Tuesday we had our second enrichment morning of the school year and there were so many positive learning experiences happening in all classes. Our groups took part in community litter picking, visited Kington Court to entertain the residents with carols, poems and cards, thought of new ways to promote our school, explored exciting art, created a healthy noodle dish and considered ways to support our own well-being. Please look at the photos of some of the exciting activities.

On Thursday we were really excited to share the pantomime 'Cinderella' which was full of fun, songs and dancing (some of our staff even had a go!). We would like to thank our 'Friends' group for arranging this wonderful annual experience for our children.

We are sure that you will have noticed our beautiful lights and decorations around school. We would like to thank the 'Tack Farm' for their kind donation of our Christmas tree which is looking beautifully festive outside our Y5/6 block.

Today we have celebrated individual achievements with our Headteacher's stickers. Reasons for the stickers today included: fantastic progress in maths, amazing regular reading at home, being a positive role model for others, demonstrating brilliant defensive skills in PE and for giving 100% with their learning. Congratulations also went to Year 2 who had the best attendance across school last week.

Thank you to everyone who has supported the non-uniform day by bringing in chocolate and sweets. Unfortunately, due to the storm the food festival has been cancelled, however, our 'Friends' group are going to organise a fundraising stall before the end of term which we let everyone know about closer to the time.

We would also like to congratulate all of the staff and community at LHS for their recent 'Good' OFSTED report which was wonderful to hear about.

Mrs. Bretherton thanks everyone for their kind thoughts and we all wish her the best as she recovers. We know that she will be checking the weekly blog and will be excited to hear all about your fantastic learning experiences, progress and achievements in the coming weeks.

Have a great weekend everyone, stay dry and warm and we look forward to seeing you all on Monday.

As I write this, our lovely team of Friends of KPS are busy preparing the school hall for tonight's Bingo. The prizes are a plenty as are the dabbers!  Thank you in advance to everyone who organises these events as there is a lot of preparation and thought that goes into it but the team are always happy in their work!  If you would like to join the Friends team and help fundraise for all the children, please come and see Mrs Price in the school office.

Other events at school this week included the workshops for our Year 1 and Reception parents to help them support maths or reading at home. Thank you to those who attended and it was lovely to see the children feel so proud about their learning. If you were not able to attend but would like more information, please do see your class teachers and they will be happy to go through it with you.

Congratulations to all of our Headteacher Sticker winners this week - a truly 'peaceful' bunch as they have all been spotted putting our values into practice with lots of children working very hard in everything they do but also working well with other people, showing resilience and being calm and kind.

The photos tell the story of this week in school.

The snow of course, on Tuesday, was a real highlight and the children all loved getting outside to play in it although they soon complained of being cold!  We have also had our Anti-Bullying play performances to the whole school which were led so brilliantly by our Year 6 children as they ran the assemblies in the other classes.

And congratulations to all of our Headteacher sticker winners this week. They were spotted for working really hard, showing peaceful behaviours and helping out their peers in class and on the playground.

Well done everyone and enjoy a cosy weekend avoiding the wild weather!

Lots more photos to share with you today from throughout the week.

Last Sunday, staff, children and families attended the Remembrance Day service and parade held in Kington and we were very proud of our three Year 6 pupils who placed the wreath on behalf of our school.

Year 6 then led our Remebrance assembly on Monday using some clever silhouette drama to bring their own WW1 letters home from the Western Front to life.

We also held a Multi-Faith day on Wednesday (as well as Forest School for Year 5) where the children moved around the classes learning all about the festivals that are important to different religions and how they are celebrated.  There was lots of craft activities and discussions going on in school including some very delicious Challah bread that Year 1 and 2 made which Jewish communities make to celebrate Shabbat.

Congratutulations to our very worthy Headteacher Sticker winners today - they were so proud to earn their award and have all been demonstrating peace in their behaviour this week in school.

Thank you to all our families for helping us to take part in Children in Need today - we raised over £190 for a very good cause indeed.

Have a lovely, peaceful weekend and take care.
