Throughout the year, we explore our core values, which are: Hope, Trust, Courage & Perseverance, Respect, Cooperation, Responsibility, Kindness & Friendship, Honesty, Peace and Understanding. We do this during our daily assemblies and look out for them throughout the school, earning Values Vouchers and Beads as we go.

In July, we focus on all the values together.

The Friends' Disco caused a lot of excitement this week and was a great way to end another great week. Thank you to everyone who was able to support it this time and a big thank you to our wonderful Friends team for organising it - it raised a fabulous £421 for the children!  Keep an eye out for the next one in the Spring term.

This week we have been exploring the value of Peace, both in assembly and in class. We have concentrated on the peaceful behaviours we want to see in our school and how we can show this ourselves. Year 2 have been acting out the words 'peace'and 'war' to show the difference in our body language and Year 6 have been preparing their Remembrance Assembly for the school on Monday.  Some of our Year 6 will be representing the school at the Remebrance Day Service and Parade in Kington on Sunday too.

Reception visited Kington Fire Station to see Phil and Gary, who showed them all the equipment and clothing they have to wear to stay safe in their jobs. They even had a go themselves!  Thank you to Phil and Gary for making us feel very welcome as always.

And finally, a huge congratulations to our Headteacher Sticker winners this week. The key word this week was 'peace' again and so many children were spotted showing this. From staying focused in their assessments, supporting their friends and showing kindness, smiling and showing positivity around school to generously sharing their own scientific knowledge about the solar system and finding peace through sewing - we are proud of you all!

Have a peaceful weekend everyone and we will see you on Monday.

Don't forget next Friday is Children in Need Day and we will be raising money by coming into school in 'lounge wear' so we can have a chilled day together.

What an amazing way to end our half term!  This week, we've had our first set of Enrichment days; a wonderful House team singing competition (narrowly won by Ireland); two of our Year 6 pupils were presented with our Platinum School Games Award at a very special awards ceremony at Whitecross High School and our School Council visited Little Orchards Nursery to build some community links.

As if that wasn't enough for one week, today, our football and netball teams played so well against the other six schools who took part in the Mitchell Hamer tournament this morning - we were very proud as they all represented the school brilliantly. Thank you to LHS for lending us their field, Mr Ward-Willis and Mrs Welson for organising the whole event and to Mr Spencer and Mr and Mrs Hughes for helping out.

Back in school, we had our first Achievement assembly of the academic year and everyone was so proud of their certificates. Well done to you all!  Grace won the Voucher prize draw for this half term and the class attendance award was won by Year 5 with a very impressive 97.4%.

You may have noticed that all the children came home today with a packet of bulbs that have very kindly been donated by Tony and Tracey from I Can Foster.  This is so that everyone can plant them now ready to enjoy the daffodils, crocuses or tulips that come up in the spring time. Thank you!

We send all our love and best wishes to Miss Minett and her husband-to-be for their wedding next week. Year 5 children and staff loved holding a special 'wedding ceremony' for her this afternoon followed by a fun party and cake!

Finally, thank you to you all for your support. It has been lovely to see so many of you at Parent's Evenings this week and we really appreciate how much you work with our staff to support your child in school.

Have a fantastic half term break and we will see you back in school on Monday 4th November.

Despite the awful weather this week we have had another busy, happy and successful week.

Our School Council started the week by visiting 'Little Orchard' to develop some of our community links in Kington. Everyone had a super time and we hope to visit again soon.

We also heard in assembly about the great time our Y5 and 6 children had had at the Herefordshire 'Values' games,

Our wonderful school ambassadors had a busy and positive time at our Open Evening on Tuesday. Every visitor complimented our ambassadors on their tours and the information that they shared, congratulations to all of you.

Year 4 had a wonderful visit to Kington Library to meet Angela the lovely librarian and we were lucky enough to have a guided tour and time to read and hear stories.

After such an amazing week it was a real challenge for class teachers to think of their class headteacher stickers and the reasons shared were just super! Our stickers were awarded for hard work, excellent friendship, being a fabulous role model, great shared reading, fantastic teamwork, making progress with presentation and improving our focus in activities. Wow!

We hope that everyone has a super weekend and stays dry. We look forward to seeing you on Monday for our last week together before half term.

What glorious weather to finish our week with!

We had a super start to the week with our Harvest assembly at St. Mary's. Thank you to Mr Sell and Miss Edwards for making us all feel so welcome.

Today our school has hosted the 'Selina Cup' which is our football competition for Y5 and Y6 girls. Our two teams represented our school so well and demonstrated our school values in every match that they played. Special thanks go to Mr. Ward-Willis who organises this tournament and to LHS for allowing us to play on their pitches and for letting us have some of their fabulous students as the referees.

In school we have been excited to see our new playground shelter taking shape and we are all so pleased with how it is looking. Thank you so much to the Friends of KPS and the Co-op for helping us to raise funds to build it!

In our assembly, Mrs. Welson shared information about the BBC 500 words story competition which has been launched and showed everyone how there is information on the school website (supporting the curriculum) for any of our brilliant story writers who would like to enter.

Our weekly attendance award went to Year 2 for 100% weekly attendance!

Our stickers this week were awarded for such important and wonderful reasons including super behaviour, being excellently engaged in their own learning, contributing more in lessons, great reading and maths work and for being a kind, encouraging friend.

We hope that everyone has a super weekend and we look forward to seeing you on Monday.

We had a smaller assembly today as Years 5 and 6 were taking part in their class walk up to Hergest.  Thank you so much to Tony, one of our parents and governors, who kindly led the walk along with his dog Ivy who is in training to be a support dog.  The children were very excited to be out exploring the local countryside and learnt lots about local landmarks and folklore.

In our assembly we said 'Congratulations' to children who had shown that they are doing their absolute best to be 'Ready, Respectful and Safe'. We also awarded stickers to children who are always making the right choices in school, for amazing PE, computing, French and for always making school a lovely place to be!

Our weekly attendance playtime prize went to Year 5 for their attendance last week, we gave them a huge round of applause in assembly and hope they heard it up on Hergest! Year 5 will have their extra playtime next week.

'Well done' from us all and we hope that you all have a great weekend and look forward to seeing you on Monday.

We have had such a lovely busy day in school today and we were all so happy to see the sunshine this afternoon! Our Headteacher stickers were awarded this week for a variety of amazing reasons including children who are showing that are ready to learn and do their best in lessons, for excellent progress with phonics and reading and for super problem solving in maths. Other reasons included for showing brilliant friendship qualities and for being a very kind person. Congratulations to you all.

Year 3 and a group of Year 4 visited Kington Court this morning and shared a Harvest song and some animal poetry with the residents and their families. We had such a lovely warm welcome and can't wait to visit again.

    • 'The Healing House' performance by The Fetch Theatre Company

      Published 26/09/24, by Admin

We have had some very exciting visitors from The Fetch Theatre Company with us in school today to celebrate the work of a much-admired Ukranian lady called Polina Raika.  Andrew, Cindy and their fabulous team of Ukranian musician, actor and stage manager worked with a small group of children from across the school this morning to create some of their own puppets which they could use to join in with the performance to KS2 this afternoon.

It really is an inspiring tale of a lady who started painting when she was 69 years old as a way of overcoming her feelings of loss and she did not stop until she had painted beautiful scenes from nature that covered her whole house.  The photos here capture some of the magic but it was a real treat to hear the traditional Ukrainian songs and instrument being played alongside the story in both Ukrainian and English.

Thank you so much to everyone at the theatre company as well as Mariia, Nadiia and Mrs Bachmann for supporting the cast and children. Oh and for the lovely biscuits too!

It was super to see so many familiar faces at Kington Show and we had many visitors who wanted to say 'Hello' and try one of the lovely activities which Mrs Palfreman had organised. Next week we will find out how Years 2 and 4 did in the competitions which they entered at the show.

We have had an amazing week across school. We have been able to say 'Congratulations' to all of our new Year 6 House Captains, we know that they are going to do a terrific job this year. Across school, we have all been working so hard on our values of friendship and kindness, with many of our values tickets being awarded.

This morning, we were able to celebrate the many wonderful reasons for children being chosen for a 'Headteacher sticker' . It was so lovely to hear about the hard work going on in maths lessons, phonics sessions and swimming. There were also children who are always showing a positive attitude in whatever they are doing and others following our 'Ready, Respectful, Safe' rules so well. In our assembly, we also introduced our new weekly attendance award, which will mean that the class with the highest overall attendance for the previous week, will be able to have 15 minutes extra playtime during the Friday. Everyone was very excited by this news and our first class to have this award were Year 4!

Year 4 have had a very busy week as they also had the opportunity to work with Steve and Ingrid from 'Hands Up' thinking about how important water is to us all.

We hope that everyone has a great weekend and we look forward to seeing you all on Monday.

We were very proud of all our Year 6 pupils today as they set a great example to the school. Many of them chose to stand in the whole school House Captain elections today which meant they had to present a speech they had written themselves.  After the speeches, the children all voted democratically and we were able to announce the winners by the end of the day. Congratulations to our winners. Please look out for some photos next week of our new House Captains and their badges!  Enjoy the weekend - if you are heading to the Kington Show tomorrow, please come and say hello to us on the school stand!

We wish you all a very warm welcome to the new term!  There has been such a positive buzz all round school this week as everyone settles into their new classes and routines.  A particular welcome to all our new children and staff that have joined us this week including Miss Tindale in Year 3, Mrs Guy in Year 4 and Mrs Mills in Reception.

Already, we have been focusing on our new simplified rules of 'Ready, Respectful and Safe' which we will share more about next week.  During our first Celebration assembly today, staff have clearly been so impressed by their classes that they really struggled tochoose only two children for the headteacher's stickers!  Please do enjoy some photos of our first awardees and some around the classes - keep an eye out for the blog at the end of each week too, so we can keep you updated with what's been happening in school.

Congratulations to Violet who was presented with the Values Cup and to Sonia who has been awarded the Jubilee Cup for an outstanding year.  The House Captains presented their last house point badges today and announced the Values Beads winners who were Ireland - but only just!  All our best wishes go with our Year 6 pupils as they move on to their new secondary schools.  We will miss you Year 6!

We have also presented some very proud children with their Achievement Certificates this week and lots of athletics badges earned by the Athletics Club with Mrs Welson.

Please have a wonderful rest over the next few weeks and enjoy some time together with friends and family.  As a staff, we thank you for your continued support over this year and next. Thank you also for our lovely gifts - the wonderful cake in the photo says it all!

    • Show week!

      Published 12/07/24, by Admin

This week was all about the show and what a show it was!

Thank you to everyone who helped to bring it together and make it the colourful and entertaining spectacle that it was. A particularly large thank you to our Year 6 team of children and staff who have spent the last six weeks rehearsing.  We have some great photos to share from the dress rehearsal- thank you to Kim for coming along to take them!

We also had lots to celebrate in our Celebration assembly this Friday with our non-fiction writing competition winners being announced - all the wonderful entries madeit very difficult to choose from! We said a huge thank you to those who represented our school so well at the Summer Games in Hereford last week and shared some photos from our beautiful Indian Dance group who have been practising their dances to share with the school and parents. It was so beautiful that all of Year 1 went back to their class and had a go too!

The children kept our House Captains very busy this week too as they had a huge amount of house point badges to hand out - keep earning those house points everyone! And finally congratulations to our Headteacher's Sticker winners today - they really have done themselves proud.  The teachers are finding it increasingly hard to choose between the children each week as so many are working hard but just someof the resaons include: great listening skills; being super kind and helpful; amazing singing and dancing; super progression in maths or in their attitude to their own learning; fabulous sportsmanship and for someone who stepped up to take on three roles in the play at the last minute! Wow - what an end to a fabulous week!  Thank you everyone and enjoy the weekend.
