Our School Value for May is Cooperation.
Our Core Values: Hope, Trust, Courage & Perseverance, Respect, Cooperation, Responsibility, Kindness & Friendship, Honesty, Peace and Understanding.
We explore our core values in our school and class assemblies and look out for them in our daily practice, earning Values Vouchers and Beads as we go.
The children have certainly returned from the holiday with a fantastic attitude and a readiness to learn so choosing the children for this weeks Headteacher Stickers was really difficult for staff. The children have all been brilliant. We said a sad goodbye to Ms Davies and wished her all the best in her new role.
Some of the children in Year Five travelled to this years Spring Greens Fair to discover fun and healthy ways to be sustainable while the others enjoyed a work shop, and performed to their families, in preparation for the Hellensmusic Festival at Hellens Manor later in the year.
It was super to start the new term looking back at the very special achievements the children had made over the past half term and to be able to say congratulations to those receiving Achievement Certificates. Congratulations to them all.
We also congratulated the latest winner of the egg box design competition run by Turners Garden Centre. We hope it is really supporting the recycling of egg boxes.
Year Three had a surprise visit from their French 'pen -pal' who they have been writing to during the year. She answered lots of questions about living and working in France, taught them a new song and brought croissant and pain au chocolate for them to try. The children were brilliant trying out the French they have been learning.
Thursday 6th April
The Inter House Competition for this half term reached its finale with the final of our table top 'ping pong' competition. The children in KS2 have been competing during break times and we were treated to exiting and very close final games. Scotland and Ireland were there until the end when we had an all Ireland final. Very tense with some excellent play. Congratulations Ireland.
Enrichment Day once again saw the school alive and buzzing with a whole range of activities.
We do not often have a premier film showing at school but the children were treated today to the first showing of the Playful Landscapes film created by Herefordshire Wildlife Trust and the Herefordshire Campaign to Protect Rural England and featuring some of our children. It was a fantastic film looking at places to play around Kington now and how it was in the past. We have put a couple of pictures on the blog but only to give you a glimpse as there will be a public viewing later in the year. We think this could be on Tuesday 25th April at 7-8.30pm in the school hall?
Meanwhile up in Year Five the classroom has turned into a News Room with the children taking on the roles of reporters and editors reporting on a range of stories. There was definitely a 'News Room' buzz!
As you pass Kington Museum look out for the planter we have adopted as part of Kington Kleen Edible Planter scheme. The children helped with ensuring the compost would support healthy growth and planted a range of fruit and herbs. We will be caring for the planter and enjoy watching it grow over the next few months. Please help us look after it by keeping a watchful eye, thank you.
We joined ten other school's from across Herefordshire for the 'Spring Sing' at Weobley High School. The children performed brilliantly and we were very proud of them. We were also delighted that so many parents were able to join us for the final concert, thank you.
