Activity 1:

 

This is our last day of talking about number 14, you will be experts on talking about that number now.  Collect 14 small objects (coins, grapes, lego bricks) and see if you can solve these number 14 gardening problems by laying out your objects to help.  Can you draw the problem and write the number sentence in your maths book?

 

Farmer Fiona has 14 beans to plant.  She plants 10 in the first row.  How many beans are left to plant in the second row?  14 = 10 + ?

 

Pam planter has 14 beans to plant.  She plants 4 in the first row.  How many beans are left to plant in the second row?  14 = 4 + ?

 

Gardener Gavin has 14 beans to plant.  He plants 7 in the first row.  How many beans are left to plant in the second row?  14 = 7 + ?

 

 

Activity 2:

 

Draw a large egg shape in your maths book.  Decorate it with 7 circles and 7 stars.  How many shapes altogether on your egg?  Can you write this as a number sentence?
