The day started with Headteacher stickers for to their work during our fantastic Science Week.

After assembly the school hall was transformed by Year Five into an Italian restaurant. The tables were set, food and drink prepared and roles practiced. Doors opened at 6pm and the paying guests found themselves being served a fantastic three course meal. There was entertainment, a fruit cocktail bar, music and a lot of hard work in the kitchens. Chefs Ian and Carl kept the children very busy. It was a fabulous evening and a real experience for our children. More photographs will be available later on Year Five class page or in the picture gallery.

What a difficult job it was judging the poetry and handwriting competition. We had 134 poems and 83 pieces of handwriting entered and they were all fabulous. In assembly today the winners were announced with extra certificates given for highly commended due to the exceptional standard. Congratulations and well done to everyone.

Wow! What a fantastic end to Science Week.  It was so much fun welcoming 'Radioactive Ryan' from Mad Science to our assembly today.  He amazed us all with some super science!  For Sports Relief, our children ran a mile around the Rec (in horrible weather conditions) in their sports clothes.  Well done and thank you to everyone who donated towards this excellent charity.  We raised nearly £250!  Fantastic!  More photos from Science Week can be seen in our Gallery, in the children's section.

Science Week begins with Challenge Day. We had floating gardens, tomato transportation, dancing raisins and the shaduf lever project, to name a few. During the week the children should be able to tell you about all the activities they are enjoying. We have visitors from Elan Valley and Usk and Wye River Foundations as well as the Minibeast Road Show and Mad Science. We will be making a new gallery of photographs on the children’s section of the website so look out for plenty more pictures.

The older children are busy preparing for a Spring Sing at Lady Hawkins' with children from all our neighbouring Primary Schools and the Yr7 pupils at High school. Jenny from Herefordshire Music Pool has been with us to introduce the songs and develop our singing. Mr. Hipkins, one of our super training teachers has also supported the children with this project.

Another of our training teachers, Miss Evans, took 30 children to the football ground for a girls football skills session. They had such a good time and showed amazing skills.

A happy end to the week as we saw some lovely sunshine and heard about some fantastic things that this week's Head Teacher Award children have done.  It was wonderful to see 61 children running around the Rec at lunchtime during Running Club too.

Joe brought some friends with him to lead assembly. We learnt another great, but exhausting, action song and thought a little about Easter.

Sam then showed us the new recycling containers and  compost bins that have arrived and let us know that we can now recycle old batteries at school. We are really happy for you to send old batteries in from home too.

We have started a new month with a new Value. It’s 'Happiness' and the students from Lady Hawkins' got us off to a super start with some of the scenes from their forthcoming show The Wizard of Oz. The children learnt some of the communal singing and dancing ready to join in. If you would like tickets they are available from Lady Hawkins’ School office. There are three performances 27th -29th March at 7.30pm. Ticket prices are £5 for adults and £3 concessions.

Yr 5 should also have very happy, hygienic smiles if they act on good dental advice following their dental workshop this afternoon with Ninki.
