  • Sunshine and Smiles

Fri 27 Mar 2020 Mrs A Philips and Mr D Perkins

We approach the end of our the first week of school being split between home and the school site. We are sadly not in the hall together celebrating and giving out stickers but this is a message to say a big thank you to you all because we know that you have all been working hard and making sure that this week is still one to celebrate. We would all love to be together but we have seen and heard of so many examples of this months value, Happiness, and how well you have adapted to this very strange situation for us all. Children have been visiting the zoo on virtual tours, painting, cooking, exercising and engaging in the home learning platform for their class.

Although you are not able to be with your friends, you have found new and safe ways to talk to each other and say hello from a distance in the park if you are out for your daily walk.

We thought that you might like to see some examples of what the children in school have been doing. It's been so nice to take advantage of the sunshine and the children have been planting in the garden.  During an art afternoon, the children also made their own pieces of art based on Kandinsky's work. Next week we hope to share some of your photographs too.

  • School but Different

Mon 23 Mar 2020 Mrs ACL Phillips

This is the first blog post that we hope will be a way to keep in touch with you by sharing information and news. There will be a mix of guidance and hopefully news of the children and their learning. Occasional videos will also be found in the Video Resource Centre of our website. It is really important to us all that we remain as connected and positive as possible through this difficult and unprecedented time.

As we start a new school week we know that it is going to be very different for us all with the majority of children working at home but school open so we can ensure that Key Workers are able to help in the most needed and vital areas for us all. We sincerely thank them for all they are doing.

Our in-school offer will be staffed safely but as minimal as is possible in order to reduce the spread of the Covid-19 virus and to support the important government advice on social distancing and self-isolation. Great care will be taken for the sake of the children and the staff.

Our families have been, and will continue to be, a very special community and this will not change whilst we are working in this very different but challenging way. We hope that at home you will be equally careful and mindful of the requirement to both stay safe yourselves and help the health and wellbeing of those around you.

Although we are learning in different places we are still the family that makes Kington Primary School such a special place.

Staff have worked really hard to ensure that from today the children can continue their learning at home through Home Learning on the Class Pages. Parents and Guardians have already told us that they are looking forward to sharing in their childs learning. Staff are looking at other exciting resources to add to their home learning pages and ways for the children to share that learning with us.

Everything is certainly very different but one thing that stays the same is how much we care for each other and how much we can achieve by working together.

    Thank you everyone.

  • Music and Magic

Thu 12 Mar 2020 Mrs ACL Phillips
The children and staff were treated to the most beautiful and yet dramatic piece of music played by one of our Year Six pupils on the piano. It was a piece that he had composed himself and the children suggested titles for the work after listening with amazement and awe. We congratulated him on his achievement as he had been invited to perform at The Courtyard Gala night of music. We also congratulated children for their academic and personal achievements both in school and outside in the community. All of our children are quite remarkable and it is always very special when we are able to celebrate that with them.
  • World Book Day & More!

    Thu 05 Mar 2020 Mr D Perkins

Another busy week with things being tied together with World Book Day on Thursday.

On Wednesday, Reverend Ben brought to assembly many of his friends and colleagues to share an 'Open the Book' assembly.  This was the first time we had held one and the children certainly do not want it to be the last.  A story was shared with the help of some drama and the children were able to join in too.

Thursday was of course World Book Day.  We welcomed the Courtyard to work with each class on a poem from 'The Lost Words, by Robert Macfarlane & Jackie Morris'.  This is a lovely collection of nature inspired poems and pieces of art.  The children did some lovely work to accompany it.  Many classes also met during the day with their 'Buddy Class' to share one of their favourite books.

Today, we acknowledged the hard work of this week's winners of the Head teacher Awards who, as always, have found a way to shine and impress their teacher that week.
