  • Farewell and Thank You

Thu 21 Jul 2022 Mrs AC Phillips and Mr D Perkins

The final week of the school year is always one to celebrate with everyone having had such an incredible year, contributing and achieving so much.

It is an extra special week for all our Year Six pupils as they get ready to take the next step into secondary school. Seeing them on Monday having so much fun with water turned back the years. It was also a lovely way to start the week, especially with the temperatures rising.

On Tuesday, we were delighted to be able to invite families into school to officially say thank you and many congratulations to Year Six, as they received their Records of Achievement and Year Books. Looking at the academic and personal progress they have made is always such a rewarding and uplifting occasion.

Tuesday also saw one of the best kept secrets, as the most incredible rendition of songs from The Lion King filled the hall with all of the children singing a final ‘Mrs Phillips farewell’. The singing and the actions were amazing. There were certainly a few tears, but lots of smiles and a real sense of togetherness which was very special. We know that the children have been practising at home, as well as at school, so thank you all for making it a send-off to remember.

We also awarded the Jubilee Cup in recognition of all-round work ethic, contribution to both the class and the school, and for incredible personal qualities.

It was also the first year we presented a cup to a pupil who lives the values of the school in all that they do in class and around school. The Phillips Values Cup has been given by Mrs Phillips as a lasting recognition of the values that have been integral to her role and her own personal values.

The week concluded with Achievement Assembly. We congratulated everyone, said our final best wishes and thanks to Year Six, and wished everyone a really good summer break. It was meant to be all about Year Six, but Mrs Phillips was surprised for a final time by the most amazing book and hamper. It really has been a special celebration and farewell and one that the children and Mrs Phillips will remember as the next adventures begin.

“Thank you to everyone who has made the past years the greatest privilege, pleasure, and joy. I will always be a part of Kington Primary School, and the community and everyone will have a lasting place in my heart” Mrs A Phillips

The final message must be for our leavers. Good Luck Year Six and a special thank you for everything you have contributed to Kington Primary School. You have been amazing.

  • Oneness

Fri 15 Jul 2022 Mrs AC Phillips

It was lovely to see Year One and Year Two walking up to Hergest Court Gardens for a fantastic day looking at all sorts of plant and tree species and spending the day in the most beautiful surroundings. You will find lots of photographs on class pages.

Enrichment Day with the theme of ‘Oneness’ saw the children using so many different skills as they used art, technology, music and prose to discover and explore. The school pond also had a wonderful summer clean thanks to Year Six. It was a super day even though our author, Catherin Barr, could not join us but will be visiting in the Autumn Term, which is very exciting

I was delighted to be able to gift a day of fun and games to the children to say thank you as I reach the end of my time as Headteacher. Year Six created the most amazing games a with a bouncy castle, lucky dip, ice cream and Cravens Crawlies adding to the day. The day was complete with a very special surprise as parents and families gathered and Friends of Kington Primary School presented me with a beautiful Harmony Garden area in the main playground that will grow and flourish over the next coming years. It was a fabulous and very touching surprise and I was able to thank everyone for their kindness, support and for the honour of being Headteacher of such a wonderful school in the heart of Kington.

We ended the week with our fantastic House Captains awarding the final merit badges of the year and Headteacher Stickers being given for another week of hard word, commitment and fun of learning. Congratulations to everyone.

  • Amazing Week

Thu 07 Jul 2022 Mrs AC Phillips and Mr D Perkins

We have had an incredible week with so much to celebrate. We took three teams to the Herefordshire Summer Games and they were all amazing. We were awarded Team of the Games in recognition for their incredible attitude, perseverance and skills.

The following day, all the children moved to their new classes for the morning with our Year Six children heading to their new secondary schools. It is a proud moment reflecting on everything that they have achieved and looking forward to new challenges and exciting opportunities.

Assembly today in two groups was a lovely chance to come together in the hall and staff somehow managed to decide on who would receive the Headteacher Stickers for the week. All the children were congratulated on the week as they have been brilliant.

During assembly we proudly celebrated being awarded VBE Accreditation. This followed a day audit looking at how the school embeds Values-Based Education. Parents, children, governors, staff and the local community all contributed to the day and we are delighted to have achieved this in recognition of the importance we place on Values in all aspects of school.

Without a moment to spare, the KS2 show gave us two wonderful performances of ‘Star Warts!’ with the hall at Lady Hawkins full of singing and laughter. It was certainly a show to remember. It is always a lovely way to showcase them as individuals and a group and an opportunity to thank them for everything that have achieved during their primary years.  Photos from our dress rehearsal can be found in our gallery.

Definitely a week to celebrate. Thank you everyone.

  • Summer Fayre and Celebrations

Fri 01 Jul 2022 Mrs AC Phillips

The week has seen our older children rehearsing for the end of year show so we had a very small but lovely assembly to celebrate with the awarding of Headteacher stickers and to introduce our new ‘values’ for July. We thought about Courage and Understanding and will focus on these over the coming few weeks as we prepare for our new school year.

The day finished with a much awaited School Fayre which was fantastic and we are delighted that we are once again able to hold these important events. We thanked the Friends of Kington Primary School for organising the Fayre and are very grateful for the support from families and the community.
