Congratulations to this week's winners of the Head Teacher Awards.  This week saw a range of qualities our children have, but in particular good effort, listening and concentration came up several times.  Well done everyone!

Congratulations to these children this week for deserving a Head Teacher's Award.  The teachers always have a tricky decision on selecting just two children who have excelled in the week.
  • Young Voices Choir at the Genting Arena 2016

    Thu 21 Jan 2016
An absolutely fabulous day was had by all 37 children at the Young Voices concert on Friday 15th January at the Genting Arena in Birmingham.  We've been working so hard to learn all the songs and dances over the past term so it was great to finally get to perform them with all the other schools from around the Midlands.  The afternoon started with a three hour rehearsal of all the songs with David, the conductor, leading over 6300 children!  By the time the audience had arrived around 6pm, we were seated in the arena ready to begin the evening performance.  Thank you to all the children for representing our school so well and thank you to all the parents for their support with this fantastic event - we'll keep you posted about next year!
  • Maths Ambassadors

    Thu 21 Jan 2016

Today was the second of our sessions where the Year 5 and 6 maths mentors worked with their buddies to enhance their maths skills.

This morning our assembly was based on 2016 being 'The Year of Reading here at Kington Primary'. Mrs Welson and the new school librarians shared ideas for how we are going to promote and develop reading right across school. Tonight everybody will be bringing home their own 'reading bingo' which is our new challenge for the term. We also joined in with a song which described how much fun reading can be.

Today KS2 children were allowed their first play on the new and improved playground.  We were delighted that Mr. Gilling was able to be our V.I.P. for the occasion and officially open the Sports Cage.  The opening fixture of this multi-purpose court was a 'friendly' netball game between Year 6 and the KS2 teachers.  After a gripping 10 minutes, the teachers clenched an important victory, winning 4-2. We thank the National Lottery for helping fund the project.

Today we had a smaller than usual Head Teacher's Award assembly, as many of the KS2 children are taking part in Young Voices.  However, we still had plenty of children to congratulate for their hard work, attitudes, maths and efforts. Well done everyone and we look forward to hearing how our Young Voices choir get on in Birmingham.

Happy New Year to you from all of the staff and pupils at Kington Primary!
