  • What a Week

Fri 29 Nov 2019 Mrs AC Phillips

We have had such a great week at school with so many different events and activities. The children have been brilliant, as always, and choosing who would receive Headteacher Stickers today so difficult. We celebrated a range of achievements with several of the children acknowledged for their kindness and friendship, reflecting the values that make school such a special place.

Some of the members of our brilliant Friends of Kington Primary School announced the winner of their logo competition. Look out for the winning design on the information our ‘friends’ send out.

We also congratulated the children who were amazing at a Spelling Bee competition held at Lady Hawkins’ High School. They faced a lot of really tricky words.

Sports Council members announced the winners of their first playground game and that a skipping competition is the next challenge.

The week ended with another celebration of the curriculum with Year Five sharing learning with their families. They showed the fabulous films they had made in science making us think about endangered chimpanzees and shared the experiences of World War evacuees through writing and drama.

We all really enjoy sharing all the things that happen in school and sometimes wonder how the children fit so much in. They are fabulous.

  • Busy Bodies

Thu 28 Nov 2019 Mr Perkins

It's been a busy few days and one feels that things are only going to get busier as we approach December!

We were so excitied to watch the pantomime, Jack and the Beanstalk, hosted kindly by Kinton Town Football Club and organised by our 'Friends of Kington Primary School' committee.  It was bright, loud and full of funny moments - it's always a highlight of the school calendar.

Year 5s also welcomed Mr Orton and Mr Davies, who are paramedics, to share some very valuable knowledge on first aid.  These are such important skills that we hope we never have to use, but could save someone's life - Year 5 took this responsibility very seriously and did a brilliant job.

Today, our School Councillors raised further awareness of bullying; what it is and how we can help stop and prevent it.  The councillors lead the assembly superbly and gave us lots to think about and try, such as "Stop! I don't like that."

  • Friday 22nd November

    Fri 22 Nov 2019 Mr D Perkins

It was Year 4's turn to welcome parents into school to share some of their recent amazing work.  It was lovely to see the children's designs and models for alternative electricity production, linking with their topic of 'Light'.  The class also showed off their super news report videos, taking inspiration from their drama work with Miss Cook from the Courtyard.

Today we met early for assembly and talked about how, sadly, 'the school had been run over'.  The children have been very understanding in having to change a few of their routines and play areas.

Mr Hallam spent some time with our Sports Council today; discussing new and exciting ways of promoting sport and healthy choices in school. We look forward to hearing more details soon.

Finally, we also congratulated two children from each class for hard work, maths, PE and writing - just to name a few.

  • Fun without the sun!

    Fri 15 Nov 2019 Mr D Perkins

Despite the difficult weather conditions, we have made some fantastic memories this week.

Year 3 were very excited to welcome Tamsin from 2 Faced Dance to work with them on their 2nd workshop.  This week focused on showing a journey through movement.  Meanwhile, Mrs Argyle worked with some of our Year 4, 5 & 6 children in our newly formed Christmas Choir.

On Thursday, as the waters rose again, Year 3 and 4 set off early to Techniquest in Cardiff to link with their science topics.  It was an excellent day and the children were amazing; impressing the teachers as well as the adults who ran the workshop.

Back at school on Friday, children wore their own socks or tights to help raise money for Children In Need.  Congratulations to this week's winners of the Headteacher Awards.

Fingers crossed for a drier week next week!

  • Remembrance

Mon 11 Nov 2019 Mrs AC Phillips
Over the past two days the children have been considering the impact of both the two World Wars and other times of conflict. We have remembered those that lost their lives and the effect war has on individuals and communities. Some of our Year Six pupils represented the school at the Service of Remembrance and wreath laying in Kington on Sunday and today our children took part in the Memorial Unveiling and Service at Lady Hawkins' School. This new memorial is in memory of the Lady Hawkins'School former students who died in the service of their country. It includes Albert Henry Hamer in whose name we hold our annual football and netball tournament  In school our younger children also reflected on our desire for peace. Everyone took part in the two minutes silence to remember.
  • Sunshine & Celebrations!

Fri 08 Nov 2019 Mr Perkins

It was a lovely day to host the Selina Cup, a football competition that champions Girls Football at a Primary Level.  We welcomed two other schools to our event and everyone commented on how nice the atmosphere was. Congratulations to one of our teams for finishing first, by just one goal difference.

Back at school, we presented head teacher awards to two children from each class. A wonderful first week back.
