Sat 28 Oct 2023 Mrs Bretherton

It's always busy in the last week of any half term and this week was no exception!  Our first Enrichment and Values day of the school year was on Tuesday and the children were very excited to be finding out more about the Harmony principle they would be exploring that day (each group will explore the six principles of harmony and sustainability throughout the year in their mixed class Enrichment groups: Cycle, Diversity, Adaptation, Interdependence, Health and Oneness).

We also held our Achievement Certificate assembly to celebrate just some of the children who have really gone above and beyond in their learning or efforts this half term.  In fact, we had so many efforts to applaud, we also had a Headteacher's Sticker assembly on Friday too so well done to all of our wonderful winners.

We were delighted to welcome Linda, Donna and Clare from Pentre Farm in to school this week along with some very special fluffy guests. These special guinea-pigs love to hear children read and we had lots of very willing volunteers ready to share a book with them.  Even better news is that they are going to return very soon to hear some more readers!

And finally, thank you so much to Mr Ward-Willis, Mrs Welson and Mr Haines for organising the Selina Cup for girls football teams amongst our local schools.  It was the perfect morning for it and the girls represented our school brilliantly. We'd like to say a special thank you to LHS and the young leaders who ran the matches for us and hosted the event.  Year One, who were out on their autumn walk, collecting leaves and creating leaf collages in the park, even managed to pop over over and support the teams.  Nursery also went exploring and found some wonderful puddles to splash about in!

Well, it just remains for me to say - thank you to all of our school community for a busy and productive half term. Enjoy a rest from the school routine and enjoy the fun things that this half term break brings. We will see you back, safe and rested on Monday 6th November.

Fri 20 Oct 2023 Mrs Bretherton

Another busy assembly to end a lovely week.  Our new School Council representatives received their prestigious badges, ready to start their first meeting next week with Miss Minett; lots of proud children were awarded their House Point badges by the House Captains; and, of course, we heard all about the wonderful achievements of our Headteacher's sticker winners.  Just some of the reasons included brilliant organising during a team task, excellent efforts in swimming, working really well with others and approaching everything with a smile. Well done everyone.

We also held an inter-house competition this week (videos available in our Gallery), where each House team had to create their own orchestra including making all their instruments.  The results were really good fun and the audience loved joining in with the wonderful renditions. Congratulations to Scotland who won by one point! A very close contest and thank you to everyone who took part including any parents who helped with making instruments!

Finally, we would like to say a big thank you to our Year 6 Ambassador team who presented the school so brilliantly at our recent Open Evening.  They showed round our groups of visitors really politely, answering questions in detail and sharing everything that we do here.  We look forward to making very good use of them throughout the year. If you would like a tour of the school with some of our Ambassadors, please do get in touch with Mrs Bretherton. You'll be very welcome.

    Enjoy the weekend everyone.

  • Our assembly today, Friday 13th October

    Fri 13 Oct 2023 Mrs. A. Welson

Today we had such a busy and lovely assembly to end our week together. We gave out an incredible number of house-point badges, so well done to everyone who was awarded one, it was lovely to see and celebrate all that each person had achieved. We also enjoyed hearing all of the different reasons for this week's headteacher stickers. We heard all about children who have been putting in an amazing effort into all that they do, using story maps well to support their own writing, using impressive vocabulary, being more independent, making good progress in lessons, showing fantastic concentration in sessions, demonstrating great team-work, consistently reflecting our school values and doing brilliantly in swimming lessons! What a wonderful variety of reasons today. Have a super weekend and we look forward to welcoming you all back to school on Monday.

Sun 08 Oct 2023 Mrs Bretherton

Year 5 and 6 were on their annual hike up to Hergest Ridge on Friday, brilliantly again led by Tony and Keith, so we've included some photos of the keen walkers up on the windy top along side our worthy Headteacher Sticker winners. Lots of lovely reasons, ranging from being able to work more independently to being a good role model to others. One of our children won two - one because they have shown a really positive attitude to their learning and because Mr Haines also chose them for supporting new members of the class in PE! Well done to everyone.

We'd also like to extend a very big thank you to Ann, Eileen and Philip who welcomed us to St Mary's Church on Tuesday so we could share our Harvest songs and poems. We were able to pass on lots of tins and packets to the Kington Food Bank too so our thanks go out to you all!

Sun 01 Oct 2023 Mrs Bretherton

Congratulations to our very proud Headteacher Sticker winners today!  It has been a very busy week for the Kindness and Friendship vouchers too as the children have been spotting each other showing the values and nominating their peers to come and collect a bead. The House Captains will be counting them up next week and sharing the results with the school before we move on to our new value for October which is 'Honesty'.

We also have our first picture of most of our new Sports Captains from across the school who have been presented with their badges in assembly today.  They will be meeting soon with Mrs A Welson to look at some breaktime activities and competitions they can run.
