It has been the most incredible Maths Week with so much going on but we still managed to squeeze it so much more. Two of our Year Two children were awarded second and third prize in the National Trust Story Writing Competition receiving a book and a certificate, our Tag Team played brilliantly at the Luctonians Tag Tournament, netball and football returned having achieved third place each at the Credenhill Schools Tournament, we were lucky to be able to enjoy and marvel at the Lady Hawkins' Gym and Dance dress rehearsal and children were awarded Headteacher Stickers for such a range of brilliant things. Congratulations to them all.

Day 2 of our Maths Week at Kington Primary School!  Today's maths challenge across the classes was to represent the number 2017 in creative and interesting ways.  Year 5 also shared their Fraction Museum with Years 1 and 3 who have also been exploring fractions.

Maths Week got off to a good start with an assembly introducing the first class challenge of the week. In class the children were faced with predicting and estimating and then finding out! Some of the children estimated how many frozen peas it would take to cover the hall floor whilst other looked at how many silver cars might pass by school in twenty minutes. Lots for you to talk about at home and much more planned for the week.

Year Five showed the amazing dance they performed at the Courtyard last week to classes from across the school who had heard how brilliant it was.

A big thank you to everyone who dressed in red and sent in a donation for Comic Relief. You raised £206.80 which is brilliant and will make a real difference.

We awarded our children with Headteachers stickers in assembly and then had time for a joke from every class. They picked really comical ones and we filled the hall with laughter finishing with a bit of a song and a dance listening to the Comic Relief song for this year.

Four children missed assembly but travelled to Hereford to take part in a Mathematics Challenge Day. They had a quick photograph before they left and looked for a funny place to have it taken.

It was a very musical day in school today with the Year Five pupils finalising their fantastic dance to be performed on stage at the Courtyard tomorrow as part of a schools 'Moving Targets' project. It looked brilliant in our school hall and will be even more impressive on a big stage under lights.

The children who are learning an instrument at school performed at their first concert to parents. Although apprehensive they were super and showed just how much they had learnt. They were joined by some of the singers taking part in 'Spring Sing' a Herefordshire schools concert taking place next week.

We congratulated the children receiving Headteacher Sticker this week for quietly getting on with their work, showing real determination, taking the lead and supporting others and being such amazing role models for other children.

We also congratulated our Tag Rugby team who competed so well at the Tag Tournament held at Lady Hawkins' School yesterday and the member of the team unable to play but who showed such impressive leadership qualities.

It was the first meeting of our prospective librarians who are going to experience the role over the next two weeks and then decide if it is something they would like to commit to long term. We look forward to seeing them helping in the school library.

Year Five have been working with the charity 'Up' throughout the term considering the effects of climate change across the world. They have looked at both the positives and the negatives and ways that we can ensure we are supporting in which every way we can. The class shared some of their work with family members. They would like us all to 'put our hands up for the planet'. The children were delighted that so many of their parents and friends came into school to share this work. Thank you.

In assembly each class shared something that would really show our Value of Thoughtfulness and we thought about how all of these ideas would make our lives in and out of school so much better.

Our new Sport Council is up and running with the aim of improving physical activity both in lessons and in the playground. They are already talking about a 'Game Changer' idea where the younger children can ask them ways of taking an everyday play activity and making it even better. We look forward to seeing some very creative play at break times.

We are delighted to have been awarded the School Games Silver Mark for our sporting provision and achievements. The Sports Council are planning ways to work towards gold.

At school we look forward to hearing about the things our past students are doing at High School, often chatting to them as they pass the school gates, and have set up a section on the website so you can share some of the activities and events happening at our local school, Lady Hawkins' It is a good way for us to share some of their achievements and celebrations with you and if you do not have children at High School yet a little taster of what's to come. You can find the first post on the website under the section headed Community, Lady Hawkins' School and Sixth Form.
